Yeah, when I heard someone call it an "Haboob", I was like what? Really?? I think they said it was 7000 ft high, 60 miles wide, and 70 mph sustained winds with 50 yrd visibility.
I flew out of there the day that stuff was blowing in, I think 3-4 hours before it hit. I've been in the raining mud storms they have there but I heard that was something else entirely.
Haboob. Had no idea such a word existed until the Haboob happened. Neither did most people. But, those people say they knew what a haboob was since pre-K insinuating I'm dumb for not knowing. I just like the word haboob. It reminds me of something else.
I grew up in Phoenix ('74-82), and I don't miss those at all. As a parenthetical remark, we NEVER heard them referred to as "haboob". Not sure when that term came about
