E.R. Shaw barrels???? Are they any good.

Re: E.R. Shaw barrels???? Are they any good.

There ok. Save a few extra bucks and buy a great barrel. What do they cost? You can buy a bartlein for around $320 shipped.

If I were building any type of rifle the last place I would scrimp would be the barrel. Your existing barrel is probably better than the E.R Shaw would be. Just my take on it. Douglas builds a pretty good barrel for a decent price.

It depends on how they are finished. I have a ERS from ARP that is about as accurate as my PacNor, both 6.8s. There might be a 1/8" difference at 100yds. I have another ERS from ARP in .223wylde that is damn accurate also. Those are AR15s though, not bolt guns.

Re: E.R. Shaw barrels???? Are they any good.

I bought a barreled action that came with an ER Shaw barrel. My original intent was to trash the barrel and put something else on it, but I ended up keeping the ERS barrel.

I had a gunsmith take a bit off the back of the barrel, rechamber, and rethread the barrel.

It's a 1/2 MOA gun.

That being said, I'm going to be rebarreling soon and I'll probably go back to using Kreiger barrels.

Re: E.R. Shaw barrels???? Are they any good.

I picked up one of the 20" threaded Savage .308 barrels last year just to have a bolt .308 option again (now has the .243 barrel on the action). I'm not sure on durability but it shoots MOA with the right loads at 100-300yds (not had past there). For the $130 I paid for it, it was a great value. Is shooting sub MOA all day long worth a $600 barrel??? That would be a call you have to make, and if you have the skills to be able to take advantage of a high-end barrel.
