Where is the outrage over killing our symbols of American Freedom, the environmental damage, pollution, etc., etc.?? Oh, yeah, this is clean, green energy for America hating degenerates.

A hefty fine, but I would imagine it pales in comparison to the subsidies (i.e. our tax dollars) .gov handed out to build that shit.....

The fine print in the story....

They only got in trouble because they hadn't applied for and paid the "fees" for the Federal licenses to say it's okay if a bunch of endangered birds get killed...
They promised to promptly get right on giving the government a payment to ensure licenses to have birds get whacked...

You were supposed to overlook that part and just scream about birds and shit. Because turbines evil, whatever hurt by them good. That's the typical reactionary MO, right? I mean shit, this is the Bear Pit, you expect people to read beyond the headline?

They somehow confused their "clean/green" wind power for the fact they're still in the energy industry, they need to get a primer from Exxon on how permits get granted in the back room.
Talk to anyone in the 760 about wind turbines. Only people they are good for are those who build and fix them.
We don't speak area codes, just say where the fuck you're talking about. This isn't a rap video.

Oh, California? We really don't give a shit now, they demanded that shit.

Neither bald or golden eagles are endangered (since around 2007), nor are there any permits that say it’s ok if a bunch of them are killed. They’re protected just like any other migratory non-game bird, just more high profile and more costly fines.

Yeah no.

Near palm springs, they have had miles of turbines since before most hippies even knew what they were, long before the news talked about them, and they have always been a fucking failure. I remember seeing them in flames, half of them with feathered blades due to mx issues, and the noise of them and annoyance, dead birds, yet paying out the ass for electrical service.

Good for them.

And there is the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. You can thank the Clinton administration for pulling the Migratory Bird Treaty Act out of obscurity.

I'm a fan of Californians getting what they ask for.

Traffic? What that? It's as alien to me as high energy prices...

Yeah, that’s was a loooong time ago, once upon a time CA was a red state BTW

The inland empire was one of the first to adopt turbines, regardless of politics, and it was a fucking mess.

There is a reason offshore boats use solar more than wind generators to make ice.

I used to deal with NEPA, ESA, and EA compliance on a regular basis. Even the federal government itself doesn’t get to just kill eagles willy nilly.

I hate the fucking things. Tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of acres in eastern WA and OR covered by those eyesores, all so the pink and green hairs in Seattle and Portland can feel virtuous while charging their iphones.

Ah yes- the most photographic of the vulture family- and really just a celebrated buzzard. Wish they would get rid of them.... well- keep enough for patriotic photos-- but get rid on the rest of them. Better yet- change the National bird-- and then no need for them.

Ever hear of Herman Werner? He donated an entire Wildlife Museum to Wyoming. He was busted for whacking and stacking Bald Eagles by the droves because they were eating his sheep. Seems kind of ironic.

I hate those things too but I am not sure how to charge my iPhone from one. Wriggly little shits.

I read the articles but it’s a bit misleading in the context we are talking about. Full disclosure when I started work as a wildlife biologist I worked for USFWS and the bulk of my work was with ES and mountains of compliance docs for these very things. Permitting does not allow companies to just kill migratory birds with no justification, however it does give leniency if birds are killed AFTER mitigation efforts fail. It’s more of an “acceptable loss” scenario in good faith. That is a gross oversimplification of it because there is never anything cut and dry with gov regulations. Even when the agency was conducting habitat restorations, prescribe fire, etc on FWS lands, it was generally so much of a pain in the ass that we would avoid work in areas where eagles had nests in the vicinity.

I generally worked on the other side of the table as an industry/agency consultant (although I did a few projects for FWS over the years). Most FWS folks I dealt with were good, dedicated, and I enjoyed working with them. Also worked a lot for/with US Forest Service. Again, most were good and I made several lifelong friends from the interactions; a few were clowns though. BLM on the contrary were generally clowns that I hated having to deal with. I'm sure there are plenty of good BLM folks but I didn't have the good fortune to work with any of them.

I worked for the BLM for about a year but in a wildland fire position. I agree with your assessment and didn't like that agency either. Forest Service is a huge agency compared to the other two and does attract some clowns. My wife worked for them while we were in Oregon and wasn't a huge fan. The USFWS is a small agency and in my experience the people there genuinely care about the work and work hard. At least at the field station level working in the Refuges. Once you get up to the regional and national level there are still good people but you start to get more bureaucrats as well. This is coming from someone who grew up farming tobacco, was a grunt in the Marine Corps, and has spent time in the hard rock mining industry.

I'm cool with golden eagles being killed. Those fucking things are all over the area of my state I live in. Anyone who's ever been fishing and had their catch stolen in mid reel by those ugly ass birds knows exactly the hatred I have for them.
