Mo, I have and my experience was excellent. Bought an 05 MB E320 diesel. Though they offered delivery, I chose to pick it up because I just wont buy a car that I havent driven. But Ebay motors does require the Car Fax report so you have some assurance. I bought from a dealer who had impeccable feedback, which is a good indicator. If someone has sold 432 vehicles and has no negatives you can assume he is straight up. Again, my experience was excellent and I would recommend my seller highly. Good luck.

I bought a 1990 Landcruiser off an individual on the other side of the state. Deal went off without a hitch. I probably wouldn't do it again though. I would rather buy within driving distance to test drive before I buy and be able to see overall condition.

I have bought a motorhome and a car. Both were as described. I did however contact the seller and set it up as a down payment thru paypal on a credit card and the balance when I went to pick them up. I let them know if the car was not as described i would not accept it and dispute the charge if they did not refund the deposit. Both were ok with it. I would buy on there again but mostly only for speciality stuff. I am looking for a truck right now but the savings are not enough to buy sight unseen.

I've purchased two trucks from ebay. I won one in a bidding war and the other was ended early and we worked the deal out over the phone instead of going through ebay. Both were from dealers so it wasn't much different than a typical purchase other than I sent a payment before I saw the vehicle. I saved quite a bit not going through ebay as I had more negotiating power. If you can, do the deal over the phone. You save the seller the fees and can more than likely negotiate free delivery and detailing on arrival.

I sold a car kinda on ebay. We actuall did the deal after the auction was over which wasn't legit per eba but saved me a ton of cash in ebay fees. It was a signed and numbered 2000 Camaro SS to an engineer at GM. Basically, she wired the money to the GMAC acct where it was financed, the remainder (overage) of which was xfered to me via check from GMAC. She set up shipping with a car carrier from Denver to Detroit and I just dropped off the car and that was that.
I sold a beater to a guy in DFW. The tranny was going out and I suspect it only had about 3000miles left on it.

Hmmmmm well, let me tell you. I hate buying vehicles. Why because of car salesman. Only met a couple over the years that were straight shooters. Just bought my elderly mother a car a couple of weeks ago. It was a Crown Vic P71 with 56,000 miles. 2006. A detectives car. Car was advertised on a auction site{not ebay} . Lots of good photo's. There description wasn't very detailed, but they did give a phone number I could, and did call to inquire about the car. I ended up being the high bidder. I have to admit worrying a little as paying that much for a car without driving it first was well not something I'd normally do. Car turned out to be a real gem. Mom is happy, and well protected. The "Police interceptor" emblem is still on the back trunk lid. She says the cops smile, and wave there hand.

She, and her boyfriend drove all the way out there only to find out the car she bought didn't match the photo's that were advertised in the ebay listing. It was in bad shape. Dent's and all. They didn't accept the car.

It's not that the sellers were dishonest, but rather that they had totally different aspects of the vehicles in the pictures than I did. I've purchased vehicles listed on Craigslist, but only after thoroughly inspecting them in person.

Tell me if I am off base if I go this route, but the way I see it is - I bid, win, send the deposit, fly to Houston, try and figure out how to get a qualified independent mechanic to inspect the car on site, if it checks out, give them a certified check, and have them ship it to Oregon, fly out.
Thoughts?

I bought my pickup using eBay, and was extremely satisfied with what I received.
Start by finding a seller who has a high feedback rating, and who will provide a sufficient number of well-lit pictures (25-30 is a good starting point for a used vehicle). Get as much data as you can via a local dealer (they can run the service and repair history from the VIN) and services such as Carfax. Talk to the seller and pay attention to any warning signs from your internal BS meter.
Once I settled on the vehicle, I purchased it using the "Buy It Now" option, and paid a small deposit via PayPal. Then, the seller sent me the paperwork, which I signed, scanned, and emailed back to them. I sent the remaining funds via wire transfer, and my vehicle was on a car carrier less than 48 hours later. It was all very simple and smooth, and overall took no more time than going into a dealership.
Is it risky to buy a vehicle without a test drive? Without a doubt! But I saved approximately $7k over what a similar vehicle was selling for locally, and since I bought my truck from the south, it was significantly cleaner than a vehicle that had been through a few winters here in the Salt Belt. Those two factors were worth the risk to me, but everyone is going to have their own option.

You could always find a mechanic and have them take the car to that mech for you post deposit and then if it checks out you could fly out or just set up a car carrier service and save the cost of the flight.
When the lady who bought my car had it shipped it cost her about $500 so you might consider just driving it back but I know that's got to be a 20+hr drive.

Both bought and sold quite a few vehicles LOCATED via e-Bay motors.
Never have bid on one. Or had one bought via bid.
However, it is a very good way to find a vehicle you are interested in. Note that a lot of auctions have wording that says 'reserve the right to end the auction early, item for sale locally' etc.
Also, never buy sight unseen. Look for a vehicle in your area and go look. Or have a friend (trusted to look at a car) look at a vehicle if it is remote. A day's drive is nothing compared to buying a junker or a lemon.
I've gotten some amazing vehicles from eBay. Definitely a great resource. But use the "Contact Seller" button, not the BUY IT NOW or Submit Bid buttons! And as always, if it seems too good to be true... it usually is!

It has been a great vehicle. the worst thing was title transfer state to state. I had to take a form from my state and have the seller sign it then have it notarized. I would give your DMV a call and ask what you will need to make the title transfer.

I have bought two cars from EBay motors myself and currently working on one for a friend that he got.
My first was a 96 Rover Cooper with 35k on the motor. I picked the car up in a warehouse in Charlotte which I drove to from Savannah. The seller was from the UK and the warehouse manager handled the final keys and money transfer after I made sure it was as advertised. It was a really good transaction, still have the car.
I also bought a 3/4 ton Chevy truck off EM from what turned out to be a local dealer for a smoking deal. I am tickled pink with the truck.
My buddy on the other hand bought a 78 mini off EM and is less than pleased. It showed up with crackled paint and when I eyed it; it looked wavy...body filler wavy. I've stripped the paint from most of the body, the front clip is rusting away from the weld seams and there are random areas of 1/8t to 1/4 inch body filler and a couple really ugly welds. Mechanically it's mostly sound. I was annoyed to find the lights were not run through the fuse box but directly wired instead.
The moral of the story is pay close attention to what you are getting; request additional pictures if you are curious about specifi. Items; I won't even think about a bid without close up pictures and a car fax. As always buyer beware.
So far I've spend about 18,000 dollars on EM and couldn't be happier. My buddy Chad is at 5000 and while he's pleased with his purchase he is less than ok with how it's developing.

I followed the instructions, got my own loan and sent everything back. Got an e-mail 4 days later saying the truck will be loaded on a carrier and shipped to my house in Upstate New York. I should be here by Monday.
So until I see it, yep.......I'm nervous but it is exactly what I wanted so I'm hoping for the best.
If they didn't have such a good rating, I would not have done it.
