As for contractor life? I made anywhere from $350-$460/day there, pretty much tax free, so the money was decent. All I had to do for it was live in a 8x20 ft shipping container in Afghanistan for eight years, work 313-335 days a year at 12 hours a day-seven days a week and get 30-52 days of unpaid vacation (contract depending), see my kids for no more than a month a year, get a divorce, thwart a TCN guard force walkout because DoD wanted to cut their pay in half to $1000/mo while also cutting their leave to 21 days off a year, do more flesh pressing and politic playing than a presidential candidate, have an Afghan Colonel put out a hit on me that fell on deaf ears when reported, have another Afghan general execute a hit on me which killed two of my men, have another insider VBIED attack kill six of my men because DoS and DoD thought it disrespectful for us to search ANSF personnel, deal with whatever dumbass US Mil leader who is the latest to come through try to reinvent the wheel so they can lay their name to some half ass planned, quarter ass executed idea and go home with a wholly underserved Bronze Star while I and the rest of the contractors are left to clean up their mess afterwards. All the while, I got to deal with all the previously listed bullshit and buried eight of my men and another dozen severely maimed while being told an actual investigation wasn't rated because no American's were killed or wounded, while really they didn't want to admit or allow it to come to light it was their own policies that were the root cause of the attacks.

To be fair, it doesn’t really matter how much goes where, as long as the little guys are correctly paid on time, provided serviceable equipment, regulations are enforced, and they aren’t shit on when it comes to rotational travel.
I believe the WPS TOs are still 5 year/5 billion contract awards. As long as dudes are making their contractual day rates, it doesn’t matter where the extra zeros go.
That being said, if companies would increase day rates, they’d be able to increase standards and recruit/retain better performers. However that would mean companies would demand higher standards than what the client sets forth in the SOW... which wouldn’t make sense for them to do because “it’s all about numbers. As long as the body meets the minimum standards, it fills a hole.”
...at the same time, they need to stop being cheap and actually provide the personnel on ground with operational equipment. #YouKnowWhoYouAre
Our big expenses were to DoS mandated sellers of fuel and water. We paid $50k/mo for diesel and $3 per .5L bottle of water (8 bottles daily per person, camp supported 1200 people, do the math and it will blow your mind), while they shot down time and time again our requests to put in a water purification facility to have potable water out of the taps. Our meal costs were cheap, we rated the $25/day meal plan while DoS at the embassy rated the $55/day meal plan. One can guess how well we ate in comparison to their Friday surf & turf, and still they bitched.
I remember when we were putting together our PR for new body armor, had a 240 man guard staff so it wasn't going to be cheap, but our body armor we were using was well over 10 years old and had zero capability of carrying magazines or other equipment, basically was the same blue Smurf vests that you see media wearing. The DoS response was "Does every man really need their own vest since only half are on duty at a time? They can just trade off at guard mount." I really wish I had a picture of the look on my face when they said that shit, I'd frame it and set it right next to my eight year service certificate.

It is funny and I get why it was made. I seen a few posts and heard some peeps talk about how it’s the same but you just can’t compare em even in the slightest.
You have an attack on a minimalist footprint consulate and CIA annex and the other was an attack at the largest embassy and fortified position that’s surrounded by stacks on stacks of assets. I just can’t bring myself to begin to compare the two, other than them being USG facilities.
As for the delay/lack of delay/blaming of an individual(s), I can’t bring myself to QB it. All I can say is that mistakes were made. High threat postings are exactly that, and that’s why OGA security personnel get paid what they do (especially on that type of contract). It sucks but that’s the game.
