Anyone try one of these out? supposed to be able to use with a smartphone. Seems like a cheaper option than a borescope that includes the camera and recording capability. There are optional 5.5mm and 8 mm for another 40 bucks. A wi-fi gizmo is 25 bucks more.

Obviously, you won't get the Hawkeye/Lyman resolution, but those costs hundreds, if not thousands of bucks; we've created these specifically as a smartphone/tablet field expedient application, but some medical-grade components had to be used in the 3.9mm model, that was specifically designed by request from the AR-15 community.

Yall should make one thats got a shorter focal length and a 90 degree mirror so I can actually see the detail that we care about when looking down our barrel. I want to see close up the build up in the corners of the rifling and fire cracking etc, not a long view looking down the center of the barrel.

I have one, and have to say, it ain't a bore scope. That being said, it does come in handy for a few things.
Looking for the dreaded "Carbon ring", just ahead of the chamber.
Checking chambers for burs/"ringing" from a fouled reamer.
Looking down a suppressor tube that has a frozen expansion baffle to check for carbon build up.
There are a few other things I use it for as well, like looking at the oil in my lathe headstock and down a sink drain to see if the wife lost her ring in the trap (before having to rip the plumbing apart to check).
Shrug. Like I said, it ain't a real borescope, but it has it's uses. For the price, it's a handy gadget to have around for odd ball tasks where seeing into a tight space can be helpful.

on amazon is only 50 dollars and will fit in a 22lr with a great view once you get it hooked up to a program on a laptop or phone for the money It's pretty good kinda a shame its not a removable head piece so you could switch it to straight view other wise no problems so far . they also have another version not sure what all it does but its more money .

Well, our EndoSnake 3.9mm was the first one to fit a 22, functionally does all the same things you just described, and more (iOS ready, etc), costs the same (and with the right promo code you can easily get 15-20% off), and was released almost a year earlier (Oct-2018); plus we also offer different lengths and diameters.

The Teslong is legitimate borescope speaking in terms of looking at the inside go barrels.
The Endosnake, I don't understand what the "AR community" wanted it for. But they could have something that would effectively do the same thing for around 10 bucks. I bought an endoscope about 5 years ago to look at a clog in a drain inside the wall. It was 5 bucks then. It was a little more expensive to cut a hole in the wall, and the pipe, and remove about ten pounds of rust scale, with a drain snake some previous pseudo plumber had broken off through it.
Looking at the inside of your barrel extension to see if its dirty.
Just wipe it out you idiot.

The issue was that those 10-bucks scopes you're referring to, were only as small as 5.5mm lens (6.xx mm head) and would not fit into AR-15s. We solved that by creating a 3.9mm version back in October 2018.
Not an issue at all, because if it can't look 90 degrees, there is no point stuffing it down the barrel.
I’ve read some reviews, especially from 17 cal owners, that say that this gadget is quite useful even if it doesn’t do 90 degrees. The cavedweller1959 prairie dog guy on youtube, for example. He did a positive review, which is a Patreon-only post, unfortunately.

Sure. Just rewatched his review on three different 17 cal barrels. In the Savage, one could see throat erosion. Also in the savage, he could see copper buildup. It was quite dramatic compared to the clean and smooth rifling of the CZ.
I don’t think anybody is saying this is a replacement for a 90 degree borescope. But because it’s very narrow, it doesn’t center exactly. Even in the 17 cal it cants due to the tension in the wire, giving one a closer view on one side of the barrel. Then you just rotate it around to get a “closer-up” view of whatever you want. I believe it focuses closer than most, as well. This effect would be increased as the caliber gets larger (ie. Larger caliber = potential for steeper angle to rifling).
The way he used it was from the muzzle in. The bolt face reflects light and helps the view.

Here is an example of a Savage 17 Hornet barrel that was cleaned, but he found out there’s still a lot of copper in it.

I think you mean Teslong? I used the link a few messages up. That is a nice unit, although it won’t fit a .17 cal bore. It’s .20 cal, although I wonder if it really would fit my .204? The specs say it’s .2”
