Engagement ranges in Afghanistan?

Hi,

So you have been a member since 2005...
So you have 2 post since being a member...
So your location says "Iraq"...

Reads like a grand-slam home-run......Please tell us you see the awkwardness of your post right?

Engagement ranges are always discussed in forms that are complex and complicated..it boils down to this:
Engagement ranges can and will only be the distance from the weapon to the intended target, anything more is a miss and anything less is a miss.

Sincerely,
Theis

Most engagement rings in Iraq were handed out at a range of under 24 inches. Though occasionally, brides-to-be were notified via e-mail or on Facetime, in which case the ranges could be 8-10,000 miles. I also understand that in certain FOB's, there were engagements that took place while in actual contact, but mainly involving 'Don't Ask Don't Tell" individuals or airmen.

When compared to engagement ranges in the PI or West Germany back in the '80s... ranges were generally similar. Though there were fewer requests for "PX Card" to accompany the engagement itself.

And we're off....

Cheers,

Sirhr

You don't really need a list. You just need the formula that shows the inverse relationship.

Does anyone have a list of engagement ranges in Afghanistan from snipers? Also a list from Iraq in built-up areas Mosul Baghdad etc. Don't care if it is miles long.

By the way, why do you want to know this?

You do realize that 99.999% of military operational matters are classified at least Confidential, right and that discussing them in open sources is a crime?

I'm pretty sure that the Taliban and ISIS have a very clear idea of how far away we can hit them.

While that may be so, it doesn't make what I said any less true.

Example: there's lots of people in the world who know how to operate nuclear power plants (me included) so it's not some super duper secret. Nevertheless, the technical information related to USN nuclear power plants is classified confidential and I will never disclose the details that I remember about them.

Yes. Maybe. Goat.

It all depends on who’s team you’re on.

Engagement ranges in Iraq:
-0 Yards to as far as the target was.
-Any distances outside of the system's/shooter's capability or circumstances were dealt with by CAS/CFF.
-Problem Solved, Problem Staying Solved.

The only thing that effected engagement distances was if the system was in MOA or Mils... Obviously. ;)

Why is this even a question?

Meters is farther than yards. Duh

Does it depend at what range the swallows were zero'ed, asking for a friend?

No.......it has everything to do with how many coconuts the swallow is attempting to carry, not whether they're African or European.

Please do try and keep up..... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

(Don't get me started on Zoot........Zoot is hot).

The smart ones just used a .50 (12.7x99 if you are a Metric fellow) so that even if they missed the bullet’s shockwave would kill the person. ;)

I also have a picture to contribute of one of the enemy’s “sniper” rifles. It is originally French.

Incidentally, since it is French, should it be fired in mils or surrendered in yards?

All of thia is moot without accuracy . You can shoot say 1,200 yards all day . Without
accuracy what's the point . So to the OP , unless your shooting Silvertips and have a hair trigger you're missing all day . Also your scope zero is just as important . If you zero at 200 yards your only 2 inches low at 800 yds . Spend the money on your ammo not the scope . Everyone knows that a Bushnell Banner or a Barska is as good as any Nightforce . If you really want to get spendy get a Counter Sniper Scope . These are often surplus new from military contracts . if you are actually in Iraq and need more info the CIA Snipers have a password that identifies them to other CIA Snipers . It's Aloha Snackbar . When around US service men start yelling it . No one will know what your saying except for the CIA Snipers who will think you're one of them . Good luck .

I wanted to "LIKE" this post but it was so disgusting I didn't.
So for you're pleasure have another look.

And the (your/you're) is because our resident linguistic professor has yet to comment. So I put up the V signal.

Lol
This thread.

On a serious note I’m with my buddy burning a cigar who was in the teams and he said his average distance was 250 yards in Afghanistan.
Rarely over 500.

I'm going to guess he hung out at a COP all the time, went outside only on specific missions which involved looking for specific someones in villages (probably up north) and then went back to the COP to ocassionally get mortered and pot shotted from a few hundred yards because for some reason we liked to build them surrounded by overlooking fucking hills.
