I have an AR varminter 24in. and I am looking to put some decent glass on it. I have a cheap simmons 3-9x on it now and NEED to upgrade. Looking for something with mil dot reticle. I want to spend $200-300. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks Fred

i have several friends who are using the vortex crossfire 6-24 1", and love them. i bought one for a back up this summer and it worked great while my other scope went to the shop. very clear glass, mil-dot, and the tracking was right on. SWFA was selling them for 100.00

Plus one on this. I have not used the Crossfire but have the Viper on a RRA 24" vatminter.

The Simmons Aetech is a huge upgrade from a bottom of the barrel Simmons scopes. Good light gathering ability, good magnification and they do seem to hold zero. I rate it great for the money.
I have two of them.
The Simons 44 mag scope (No longer made but can still be found in shops/stores)is also good but in low light it starts to wane as far as light gathering ability.
One thing to consider is a good used older Redfield scope and looking for a good condition 1" tubed Leupold Vari-X III.
Both have very good glass, and I know Leupold has a lifetime waranty if you ever had any issues.
These are easy to find on E-bay and other places that sell scopes.
The Tasco Super Sniper (SS)fixed 10 power is a fantastic scope for the money as others have said and it's a 30mm tube. This has great glass for the dollar and tracks well. If a fixed 10 power will be perfect for what you want then look no further. I kinda prefer a variable but I have enjoyed the SS as well for certain situations

I use either FF IIor Pentax pioneers on all my hunting rifles. They both have good glass but the biggest thing for me is they are the toughest scopes I have ever used. I own 6 between the 2 and they ride on my 4 wheelers year round and never need to be rezeroed. You can find the 4-14x42 pentax pioneer on ebay for about 200 from a guy named poorfish and he is a good guy to do business with.

If you want my oppinion than the go for optical clarity over magnification. Good glass is an adiction.
The crossfire deal is a great one but I look at exit pupil and clarity over all other things. I can not speek about the Crossfire but the Vipers I have 4 and am very impressed with.
