Recently got my hands on an Envis M703E nv optic. Ive seen a few guys modify these to use a pvs-14 ring mount but no one has gone into detail on how to do this. Has anyone here tried this? what's the easiest way to try to mount one of these puppies.

I've hunted with my ENVIS behind a Millet 4x16x50mm scope. I made my own coupler from vacumn hose and automotive clamps. The couple only has to hold the ENVIS in alingment away from the rear of the scope.

Recoil - I would recommend 6.5 or below, the ENVIS wasn't designed to be weapons mounted.

Magnification - I could reasonably get 6-7x mag while maintaining a clear enough image to shoot.

Parrallax - your scope doesn't need it BUT I found that it was useful in gaining additional sharpness even though I was at the mid range of magnification.

Reticle illumination - probably the most difficult part of weapons mounting an ENVIS is getting a good sight picture with a fine reticle. I used a pentiometer and resistors to modify my scopes illuminated reticle so that it was NV safe.

Final thoughts- I bought a Pulsar Digisight and haven't looked back. The ENVIS is now only used for scanning and detection. I don't miss the days of scanning with the ENVIS and adapting it to the weapon and focusing it and then trying to steady a shot.

If you need more details PM me.

I did a google search on mounting them and there was a guy that used a pvs14 ring mount, looking into trying this with an American Defense QD mount so I can use the nv to scan and hopefully pop it on behind a nv compatible vortex red dot when I have a target. Guess I'll play around with it, if all else fails I'm sure I can find spare parts somewhere.

You can have that converted to a PVS-14 body for about $900. I forget the name of the guy. Found him through google. You get it back with a new body and full kit to include J-arm and skull crusher and weapon mount. You can also do it yourself, but the nitrogen purge (displacement) makes it a PITA, unless you have the nitrogen handy already.

The gain dial is non functioning as the ENVIS does not have that feature. If you have a clean tube, it's worth it. I'll dig through my old emails and see if I can find the info, but it was only one of two places selling the bodies and parts.

Edit: pretty sure this was they guy. Had it done approx 2.5 years ago, prices may have changed.

Weapons mounting ENVIS w/ DLOC QD Mount

The aluminum j-arm adapter is a must have for helmet mounting but is still not the way to go for weapons mounting. The aluminum mount does give the ENVIS housing a fighting chance but the plastic housing is just to soft for it to be sufficient for recoil induced stresses. The adapter is great but not enough in of itself to be a mounting interface for weapons use.

The ENVIS's plastic housing may be soft and weak but its core is rock solid, stronger than most monoculars. The components making up the core are all aluminum, reference the picture below.

The most rigid and structurally sound way to weapons mount the ENVIS is with the Alamo Four Star DLOC QD Weapons Mount. The polyetherimide polymer that constitutes the OEM infinity focus stop ring is more than strong enough for mounting the DLOC and for handling any recoil induced stress forces. Of course if desired an aluminum or titanium ring could easily be installed making a nearly fail proof interface. The infinity focus stop ring on the ENVIS is located underneath the tapered rubber cover, just aft of the objectives slotted sleeve.

Very off topic, but I am glad to see you posting here. You happen to have a knowledge base that is very beneficial to a group of NV enthusiasts.

Wow, almost speechless, thank you Delta4-3.

The physicists, chemists, engineers, hobbyist and enthusiast that made this technology a reality sure did give us something to play with, thanks guys and gals.

Really am thankful to live in this time and to be exposed to some many bind blowing technologies. Every time I look through a thermal or I^2 device I can't help but imagine that the technology allows an ever so small hint at what it's like to see other dimensions. At the very least it make believing in other unseen dimensions all the more believable.
