Rifle Scopes Eotech or Aimpoint

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint

I have used both. 2 EoTechs (552 & 512) and 1 Aimpoint (ML3). Advantage of the EoTech, cheaper, 1 MOA dot. Disadvantages Much shorter battery life, busy reticle. The ML3 advatage many thousand hour battery life (50,000) clean reticle. Disadvantage is more expensive 2 MOA dot or 4 MOA on some models. Overall I prefer the AimPoint but it's a matter of personal preference. I'd look at both if you can and then decide.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint

Just like many other gear, too much emotion goes into the typical this vs that bullshit. I've owned both and love both. Yes, the EOTEch has had some issues since they were bought out by L3. I'm pretty confident that the new XPS series will take care of the electronics issues. The whole battery life thing is overblown. I've had the XPS 3-2 for a couple of months and I've been turning it on for 8 hours every day and it is still going strong for over two months. And for the guys that love to bash the EOTech reticle because it is too busy, it would be nice if you guys pointed out that they do have a 1 MOA version.

Aimpoints have the reputation because they are great optics. Of course the EOTech bashers conveniently froget that Aimpoint had some major issues when they first came out with their first Military versions. But they fixed the issues.

I'd try both and see which one you like best. I have the XPS and the Aimpoint M4s. If I had to do it again, I would have gotten the Aimpoint M4 instead of the M4s, but other than that, it is a kick ass optics. If you are thinking of getting an EOTech, get the XPS Series.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint

if your life depends on it, aimpoint. I can show you what 70 plus broken eotechs look like that didnt last 16 months in Iraq.

How many of those were the XPS models? I also met several Military guys who absolutely mother fuck Aimpoints because of the issues they had with them. No matter how hard I tried to convince them on how good the new ones are. Our SWAT Team uses the 552's and they have no issues with them and they had them for a few years now. They did have the 551's which had several problems. We have 512's in my department and they run fine.

I recently read an AAR on M4Carbine in which 2 Aimpoint T-1's went down in the same class. There was also a thread in which someone reported that some of the new Aimpoint M4's in one of the Military units had issues. Does that mean I should go out and sell my Aimpoints and EOTechs? Hell no, they are both awesome optics. Anything battery operate can fail. That's what BUIS is for.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint

They were all 552 rev. F. None of the failures were battery issues, instead the cheap glue used inside to hold the mirrors would release and the mirror would bounce around.

Every IED we hit, at least one eotech in the truck would be busted. Never once did we lose an acog or an aimpoint unless the damage was so catastrophic it usually took the vehicle with it too.

If you baby your equipment, you'll probably be fine. But in the battlefied, there is no place for that. We did a review on the equipment and turned it into G4 for them to stop issuing contracts on them as they were such inferior optics DURABILITY wise.

Agreed, at the end of the day, BUIS is the only option. Know how to use them. RLTW

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint

The best thing to do is try both out for yourself. Alot of gun shops stock both so go play with each. Battery life shouldn't be the deciding factor. I know personally i don't care how long the battery lasts if my life depends on it, i'll change the battery [in my case] before every mission. For home defense id still probably change batteries at least twice a month.

Durability can be stretched either way, not much survives IED blasts, and even if an ACOG makes it im sure the BZO was shot. My SAW gunners used Eotech's and they held up quite well.

The one personal advantage i see with the eotech's i feel the field of view is just a tab bit better.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint

Aimpoint takes the cake over EOtech.

ACOG takes the cake over Aimpoint.

ELCAN SpecterDR (Made In Canada) takes the cake over ACOG.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint

Actually that statement is incorrect having owned or used all of them and an ATN MARS Gen 4 optic ($4500+).

All sights serve different purposes. One is not better than the other for what they bring to the table.

Eotech XPS, Aimpoint Comp M3, and Trijicon Tri-power are all equal in terms of what them bring to the table for CQC situations and short range. I have had all of them on my KRISS SMG. It comes down to your situations and needs and preference.

Trijicon ACOGs are used for ideally medium range shooting along with the ELCAN Specter. But the 2 in 1 with the ELCAN makes it better for some people, again not all.

ATN is pretty good with night optics as well but there are some that are equal and better IMO. Gen 4 and up here.

My statement was quite correct, but I should have been more specific by saying "all things being equal..." (with regards to zoom and reticle options, etc.).

Don't get me wrong. I am an ACOG fan as much as an Aimpoint fan. I'm considering getting the ACOG TA33G-H 3x30 or the Aimpoint CompM4s for my AR build. Right now I have an Elcan SpecterDR on my XCR and love it. I can honestly say, using all of them, that the Elcan is a bloody tank and has the best glass out of all of them.

Anyways sorry to stray off topic

True.

It is a tank and I want to run it on my KRISS but its overkill bigtime. lol

I have mostly Trijicons myself but I really liked the Eotech until I got tired of the ring/dot. Then I moved to the Aimpoint and loved it but wanted the Tri-power so bought both.

You cant go wrong with any of them IMO.
