Looking to buy a scope for a 6.5 Creedmoor hopefully coming together soon. Trying to decide between the ERS Bushnell or the XRS Bushnell. Being as I haven't got to handle one in person and won't get to until one shows up at my door I figured I'd ask for the experience of those who had. So far reading through the threads here I have found far more positive than negative, but seems some are reporting the XRS is a little dark on the top end and the ERS tends to tunnel on the lower settings. Sound right so far? What magnification are folks able to get to on a typical steel plate at 1000yds or so with these scopes? Thanks

People can generally run 10x scopes on torso plates at 1000 yards. I personally don't see the point of 30x on a tactical rifle, although to be fair, you don't sacrifice a whole lot of low end on the Bushy. 3.5-21x is about perfect, though. The "tunneling" effect, as I understand it, is actually a good thing (sort of). It means Bushnell chose not to mask the higher powers to hide the tunneling effect, like some companies do. This allows for the max FOV at higher magnifications. Can't comment on glass clarity or quality, as I haven't looked through either of the new Bushy's.

I went w/ the ERS just because I stick to 15x most of the time, that being said you could do that w/ the 4.5-30x50.

I've been running the HDMR/DMR w/ a G2 for a while The upgrade I wanted was ZS and 10mil turrets. The ERS offered this, so I bought it at a lower price point.

Thanks for the advise...I'm also still struggling over h59 vs G2...I like the G2 but am worried about wind holds for my neck of the woods, was blowing steady 32 this afternoon which is not all too uncommon...

Well, pulled the trigger on the ET35215GZA...G2 FDE ERS. Hoping it's all they're cracked up to be. Now to figure out scope rings...being as I don't have the rifle in hand it'll be hard to get an accurate measurement. Anyone running a Mod 70 SA w/ a 20 MOA rail and a Sendero contour Lilja w/ an ERS/DMR? Should be the same as an FN too...

Thanks everyone for the help.

They are on my short list..just trying to make sure it'll clear with the lows. I figure someone out there is running the HDMR on an SPR or model 70...

I'm trying to make this decision right now.

My main question is will either one have a better eye box if they are on the same power? The XRS does have a little bit of a picky eye box in my opinion when you get to the top of the magnification range. Also, does anyone have experience to know how much thicker the H59 will look on the ERS at 3.5x vs the XRS at 4.5x if at all?

Wish they made the ERS in FDE with H59 because the ERS's are going for some really good prices right now.

I have both the ERS and XRS. They are both fantastic scopes but are a bit on the heavy side. The thing I like about the ERS is the ability to see the .1 mil hash lines while at 21x where the XRS at 30x you can't see them. Regardless , IMO , the XRS is the better of the two given that extra 9x when engaging targets past 1300 yards. It's a 600 yard scope and it's an elr scope. The ERS , and this just may be my eyes , doesn't quite have the clarity as the XRS. But like I said this is just an opinion. They are BOTH fantastic scopes and I am actually considering selling all my NF NXS's to get a full line up of ERS' and XRS' to go on all my "expensive " rifles just to have the same line up which will cause less confusion because my NF's are MOA.
If I were going to shoot a PRS match , (where targets are 1,000 and in ) I'd go with the ERS and set it at 16x. Zero at 500 yards and let the reticle do the job for me. But to each his own.
Here is the XRS at 30x looking at 3" pistol gongs and a 24"x24" ar500 plate at 1,000 yards. Notice it's clarity even while taking a pic with an iPhone.

Here's the XRS at an unknown power ( probably 19 or 20) at same targets and distance.

I don't have any pics of the ERS at distance but I cans say the max magnification is pretty similar to the 2nd pic.

I say regardless of which one you get , you'll be happy... Another thing I like is they pick up A LOT OF LIGHT which is a very big deal to me as a long range hunter. More light transmission than my 5.5 x22 NF's. ( this is my eyes though)

Thanks Aimsmall, those 3" plates look better at that distance than I would have expected through the Bushnell. Most of all my shooting will be 760 and in so I don't know that I'd need the extra mag of the XRS but it might be fun to play around with. If the eye box wouldn't be any better at the same mag range. The price difference is kind of a wash because I want the h59 in FDE so for the price of getting the black ERS and getting it ceracoated would be similar to the XRS or it could buy some ammo.

That is all splitting hairs between those two because I'd know if I'm happy with one I'd be happy with the other. The only thing that is preventing my from ordering one now is the new Steiner T5Xi looks like it will be a great value at it's price point with German glass, I like the SCR reticle, illumination, and a nice mag range. Plus, it's also made in the USA. I don't know if all those features and waiting is worth an extra $100-200 vs. an H59 FDE Bushy for me or not.

I don't know where you live and shoot, but, while you definitely don't need the extra mag to shoot, I will say it is very handy to identify and evaluate crosswinds when shooting over 900 or so

If you went through CSTactical, they can do a FDE Cerakote for around the same price as the FDE scope, and it looks far better.

I have the ERS cerakoted in FDE, and prefer it because the markings are still white on a black background. Far easier to see than the factory FDE coating. I also LOVE my ERS!

That's a great idea

Does mike ship to aus?

Not to hijack the thread, but I am looking at the ERS model. How exactly does the G2 reticle work? Does it have to be zeroed at a certain range for the holds to be correct?

its a mil reticle like any other. the holds correspond to your data. its not a bdc or caliber specific reticle. its first focal plane so your holds will be correct at any magnification
