No, not a liar. You were questioning things that to many were akin to questioning that we revolve around the sun, not some theoretical stance personal to me. You would like to have thought insisting on facts would make us look foolish. You thought the facts were on your side, being unaware of them, apparently. The Mechanic did the simple, but tedious, job of directing you to several facts I was taking for granted, so I thanked him. I can't imagine you'll try and argue them further, being a rational man who wants everyone to present facts as a basis for belief.
You will only be lying to yourself if you choose to not accept facts, but that was a strong trait amongst Californians when I lived there, so you might just be one after all.
On topic, I used to go to Hemet to catch gopher snakes and nice desert colored California Kings. I caught my first gecko there too. Cool place, at least to visit.
