A friend of mine got a hold of several pounds of some older Bonanza 4831 powder. he has had some say it is the same as IMR 4831, but I'm wondering first, if it's even safe to use and second if it is the same as IMR. we can't find any info on this powder. Thought I'd ask the experts before he hurts himself. Thanks in advance for the info.

Re: Ever heard of Bonanza Powder?

IMR (Dupont) 4831 was introduced in 1973. 4831 Powder prior to 1973 was the Hodgdon variety, which is a little slower burning than IMR4831.

Using Data for Hodgdon 4831 would be dangerous, if the powder is actually IMR 4831. Your friend would be safe in using IMR 4831 Data as long as the powder has not deteriorated.

I'm still using Hodgdon 4831 from the 1960's.
