A while back I started a budget build for just under $1500 based off of the Remington 700 AAC-SD and almost immediately started upgrading components and sending parts to gunsmiths until I was left with this.

The post with some range report info is here..http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/snipers-hide-bolt-action-rifles/165916-done-my-budget-rifle.html
For a bit I tried one of the Daniel Defense muzzle brakes and while it was effective for being such a small break it reinforced the fact that I'm not a muzzle brake kinda guy. The Super Sniper was also a good optic for being only $300 but it was never meant to stay on the gun, I originally got it for my Ruger 10/22 but it did sufficiently well on the bolt gun. After looking around I decided to jump on the Bushnell ERS 3.5-21 with G2DMR reticle but it was a close call between it and the Vortex Razor HD.

It certainly adds some weight to the gun but I think it fits the shorter, more compact rifle theme well. I was at Peacemaker National Training Center today to qualify the gun for their 1000 yard range, which essentially means shooting a sub-MOA 5-shot group at 100 yards and proving you have realistic dope for the gun. I was shooting M118LR and Federal 175 gr GMM to qual with.

I shot my first five shot group at the second dot from the right using M118LR, which came in right at 5/8th's. The next five shot group was on the head of the LaRue target and at this point two guys decided to open up with their AR-15's on either side of me. One was braked, the other seemed overly concussive for some reason under the canopy for just an A2 flash hider...either way I managed another sub-MOA group, probably about .9 or so. Suprisingly the Federal GMM provided the worst group at just a smidge under MOA for five shots, but it could've been me also at that point and not so much the ammo or the gun. The shots on the little hostage guys at the bottom were with M118LR, some were good, some were bad.
So far my little project gun has been a 3/4 minute shooter on average, some groups do a little better and some a bit worse but it's a solid gun I'd say. There's a match next month at Peacemaker called the Long Range Challenge that I might use the rifle at so I can get some dope on the gun and possibly find its limitations.
Right now my future plans are torn between bedding the B&C stock as right now it's the same as when I dropped it in or trying an AI AX chassis. I'm leaning towards the AX chassis but that would mean new rings too and more money...we'll see but it's most decidedly heading out of budget build territory.
