    <span style="font-weight: bold">Barrett MRAD @ Rifles Only </span>

    mradoverall.jpg

As some of you read Kyle from Barrett brought down their new MRAD rifle system to Rifles Only this past week. So we had a great opportunity to shoot this rifle from 100 to 1000 yards.

In terms of accuracy the rifle was outstanding definitely able to hang with any precision weapon system. Being of the switch caliber design there are lot of new features, including user changeable calibers that really only take about 3 minutes to perform.

And yet another group from a different shooter. <span style="font-style: italic">(Note this is a subMOA target)</span>

So after shooting it, I put together a little montage video to highlight the Barrett MRAD as seen at Rifles Only. I recommend watching it in 720HD

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wj1z6DL83fg" frameborder="0"></iframe>

    But that is not all...

Barrett is exclusively releasing their new videos on the system here on Sniper's Hide !

    Awesome action video !

Re: Exclusive Video Release - Barrett MRAD

I think Barrett is looking to go beyond just the .50 Caliber recognition into the arena of the precision weapons system. Where the MRAD will take them is definitely a move forward as there are a lot of pluses with the system as well as new features just now starting to be seen in other places.

How come You had to shoot hakmeed so many times ? Missing or did he reallllly need killin ?

Re: Exclusive Video Release - Barrett MRAD

They are working on new Calibers and I know the 260 will be one of the first of the 308 family available.

This is pretty much so new, it's just in the ramp up phase, but rest assured 260 was definitely in the early conversations. Although I know Kyle from Barrett wanted to use this system in 260 for the Shooter's Bash, I just don't know if he had the barrel ready yet ?

I would suspect you have to buy the other caliber bolt heads and barrels separate to start... Right now this was put out of the PSR submission, so the 338LM was the first offered to satisfy that requirement.

Great Vids! Do you know a rough dollar figure so I can decide if I should start saving my pennies or just drool over someone elses??? If it falls in the price range of the 98B I'll start saving! If it falls in the price range of the M107 I'll just be drooling!

Let the saving begin!... and probably some selling too.

yes, it is hard to see in the clips I have, but they are looking to serialize only the lowers, it will depend on ATF approval, this model has S/Ns on both halves.

But they are looking at a way where you can simply switch uppers instead of changing but the barrel and bolt. Sort of an easier solution for those looking to get a one stop system.

There is no issue with the split you don't notice it and it has no slop in the system, so I think it can open the door to the ability to bring other platforms into the mix at potentially a lower price point. There is also a familiar feel to it so that helps in some cases.

No doubt a great rifle. However, I'm interested to see how sales will do given that the competition (i.e. SRS) can be had for under $5K.

Re: Exclusive Video Release - Barrett MRAD

I'm convinced I'll be adding a MRAD to my collection. Frank...how do you like the BORS? I like the concept but wish it could be retrofitted to different scopes.

Re: Exclusive Video Release - Barrett MRAD

The BORs is pretty good, they are updating the software to give you wind information so that is an improvement.

It can be used with different scopes, NF, S&B, you just have to get it that way.

Having the data right there is nice.

Re: Exclusive Video Release - Barrett MRAD

I think I saw Lupy as an option too.

I'm kicking myself now for leaping on the 98B too soon. Had I known the MRAD was being released I would have waited but oh well...you can't take it with you so you might as well spend it on guns. The 98 is a fantastic rifle and will be easy to sell to someone that can't afford the price of admission for a MRAD. Don't care much for .300wm but would love to have the ability to go from .338 to .308 on the fly.

Nice work on the vids BTW.

To echo Frank's observations, I can't overemphasize the rigidity of the split upper/lower Barret design and they did it really without re-inventing existing gas gun configurations. Amazingly simple and they thought of pretty much everything including a bolt interlock that prevents activation of the receiver latch with a locked bolt. Even the polymer bolt guide doubles as a dust shield to keep crap out of the action.

    In what way?

Re: Exclusive Video Release - Barrett MRAD

If you haven't figured out yet G-TAC is the guy driving the rifle in the videos from Barrett who just happens to be here in Co when he's not traveling . Oh he can shoot a little too .

A predetermined wind call for whatever cartridge you are using that is programmed in... you can tell it to give you a information like a chart, say for a 10mph what the hold will be.. its not active only passive information.

Re: Exclusive Video Release - Barrett MRAD

I forget what Kyle said I want to say 2 MOA at most but I forget honestly... I am guessing.

We didn't change it during the two days he was down with it, it was very last minute, but maybe at the Bash we can, I believe he is bringing one.

We probably should have just pulled it and replaced it but I didn't think of it because there wasn't another barrel available.

Re: Exclusive Video Release - Barrett MRAD

    <span style="font-weight: bold">Group buy!!</span>

On my Windrunner it can shift as much as a half MOA and that is a real nice fit with a huge bearing surface so it would be interesting if it is pretty repeatable.
Great videos Frank. I am glad to see Barret getting into making a nice accurate switch barrel. It should make them a lot of money and a lot of happy customers. Everybody wins.

That one is pretty sweet as well, even though it thoroughly kicked me and my "wind cheater rifles" ass.
