Well, I've ordered my 300 BLK barrel and I want to put a early FAL style slotted type flash hider on it. Inch pattern FAL flash hiders are tapped 9/16 X 24, and are too thin to ream out and re-tap.Since the barrel is threaded 5/8 X 24 it looks like I need to fabricate one.
A friend of mine has the mills and lathes to do this project, but I don't know what steel to use or what hardness it should end up at.
The finished part will be threaded 5/8 X 24, length will be 4 inches, bore diameter of .420 and have 5 slots. The O.D. hasn't been decided on yet. (Depends on the diameter of the barrel at the muzzle.)
Is this a feasible project, or should I forget it and go with what's available commercialy?
Any thoughts or advice will be greatly appreciated.
