Suppressors Factory Subsonic 308?

I want to say I saw some factory loaded 308 subsonic rounds at a local gun shop. It could be Beck Ammo, I know they make one or two 223 subsonic loads because I've tried them before.

ds i tried some factory lapua 200 gr in my 308 with a 11.25 twist it tumbled at 100 yds i have 2 or 3 boxes if your near western pa and i don't have to ship them you can have them they are no good to me i ended up loading sierra 175 gr tmk's with trail boss it shoots one hole at 100 for me. i would have thought 200 grainers would not have tumbleded with a 11.25 but who knows. i build a 300 blk bolt with a 1/8 and it shoots remington factory 200 gr subs lights out.

I actually custom load 308 subsonic, I used trail Boss for a long time but we are experimenting with a couple different powders now. I've come to the conclusion that trailboss is mildly/semi corrosive if not cleaned up in a timely manner......

Beck subs are great in my opinion

^^This^^

I'll tell ya what, though... I have decided that rather than mess with .308 Win subs, I use 300BLK for subs... you get the same ballistics as the .308 Win subs (duh) along with a shorter bolt stroke and higher mag capacity.

That said, if you already have a .308 setup for the DTA, then it only makes sense to use it.

I know Beck has several 308 loads but the 208gr A-Max resulted in .5 or so. Shot some AWC subsonic 175 gr today and it's consistently around 1". Also tried some Tubb 200gr but results were unfavorable.

I bought a couple of boxes of Lapua, and had a couple of boxes of Southwest Ammo (from when they were in business...). Both were ok, not great groups.
Yeah Southwest got me for $700. Don't know how people like that sleep

Thanks for the info. I bought a few boxes of Becks not sure if I have the 208s or not. I need to test them.

How were the 223 loads? It would be nice when hunting in sensitive areas. I have used a suppresses 10/22 with good luck before.

Yeah I have a few 300blk semis and they work awesome but I would like to be able to switch ammo and shoot quietly when I'm out with the DT.

Thanks for the info.

Lapua makes some good subsonic rounds however it will NOT work in the 1:12 or 1:11.5 twist barrels worth anything.
With a twist in the 10 to 8 range & a short barrel, it would probably work well.

I can add something here, which is a rare thing. on this forum.

BECK loads an amazing subsonic round, Ive tried nearly all of there .308 loads and the 170gr flat point gives me a standard deviation of about 14 out of the box. Everything else Ive tried, including some developed loads I worked on with copper creek have a SD of 25 or more. These 170 FPs are just amazing right out of the box. Ive tried BECK maker rex, BECK amax, different weights and only one solid winner as I explained above. The 170fp is an amazing accurate subsonic round.
Ive done so much reading on subsonics and there is one thing I have read many times, flat top and flat bottom bullets are the best bullets for shootings subs. After seeing what these FPs can do, I can honestly say that these are the most forgiving bullets you can load for subsonic performance. To date, I can 100% agree that flat points and bases, for some unknown reason, are much better at slow speeds than any other bullet design.

How good?? I can shoot BECK loaded 170 FPs out to 350 yards. YES 350. I am shooting 1000fps from a DTS 16" barrel. (1:8 twist)
That's about 14 mils for me and I did this with incredible repeatability. I started to see some vertical spreading out that far, but I still get solid hits. At 200 yards I get consistent hits at a 6inch plate. This is just awesome, so awesome that some guys wont believe me but thats ok.
But even with spectacular results from BECK 170FPs, it doesnt help me with expansion so I am still trying to improve on mu subsonic loads.

I really like the maker REX bullets the best because of there expanding properties so I am developing a load with the 200 grain version, Paul has been an amazing help at Maker. With his precision mindset, my determination and with some help from a good friend and top PRS shooter I am trying to achieve 1in MOA with Paul's Maker REX violently expanding projectile. I know they fly great, I just need to eliminate the low flier I get every 3rd shot or so. We are in the camp..neck tension is the culprit.
The subsonic Maker REX bullet is the most humane bullet I have seen, even better than sending ELDs at 2700 fps. His projectiles perform off the hook. They expand and release all the energy into target. They drop shit fast and hard.

so far....

DEVELOPING the Maker REX.

My PRS buddy is using a "Lee universal neck expanding dye" (recomended by Paul) to open up the brass in an attempt to eliminate that excessive neck tension. Thankfully my PRS buddy is challenged by this project and he is going all-out balls to the wall to help me figure this out. He is a precision shooter and we are analysing every aspect of this load to get it done to the best of our ability. I can say a few things here so far. Paul's bullets are exteremely concentric because we tested them, all of the necks have been turned so we will have consistent neck tension, we are opening the necks so they are not too tight, primer holes are also being opens and cleaned for a nearly perfect ignition. We plan on doing a tightly controlled ladder test in the next few weeks. Weve been working on this for about 2 months.

FACTORY BOX AMMO ~ PAST RESULTS and DATA SHEETS ATTACHED USING ~BECK SUBSONIC AMMO
You can see on attached pictures, some of the slower shots on the BECK loaded REX bullets resulted in low hits. I am pretty sure that we can improve on these results. 6 of 10 shots were perfectly grouped, but 4 has dismal velocity and fell 4 inches low. (excessive neck tension?)

Keep one thing in mind when looking at the attached data, the target spreads that do not show all 10 shots have skewed results because we omiited the really slow velocity shots. For example, the BECK maker REX data only measured the poi spread of 6 shots because 4 were extremely slow and low. The more you look at this data, the more will jump out at you.

Overall, if you want a good shooting .308 subsonic load for target practice, you need to TRY the BECK 170 FPs. They are also great killers, have had MAJOR luck on game and as the BECK ad says, they hit like a freight train... but you must hit bone to transfer energy into the game if you want to see devestating results.

My ambition is to shoot the REX bullets in the end because they are much more lethal and therefore shot placement much more forgiving and humane.

I still have a box of subsonic .308's (full) from like 20 years ago, before I started reloading. Can't remember who made them...They're stuck in the back of the safe with some other rare no-longer-made factory ammo. Now I just load my own using Trail Boss. 👍🏼
