Fake or not?

Trying not to get burned. This guy is offering a Leupold MK4 12-40 with SLICK kit for 900 bucks. Doesn't have box, paperwork or carrying case but has plenty of good feedback. Only thing in the scope is rattlecanned. Was wondering if yall could take a look at the pics and see if I should be worried? Or if there are even "fake" MK4 spotting scopes floating around. Appreciate any input

I have not heard of fake Leupold Mark 4 spotting scopes but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I have the same setup bought from Europtic and the Badger SLICK hardware looks real as does the scope. The aluminum ring section right behind the Badger part that clamps onto the aluminum front lens bezel has the model and serial number stamped on it. Mine says "Leupold Mark 4 12-14x50mm followed by a 6 number and one letter serial number. The stamping is very shallow and it might be tough to get a usable picture of the serial number because I believe that you can contact Leupold with the serial number and they will verify is the serial number is legit which might help your comfort level.

I could be mistaken if it's the exact same model as your ask, but I've seen Leupold blem or open box demo for dirt cheap at Midway USA just a few weeks ago for a lot less than what that used one is selling for.

However, I think you’re not taking into account the value of the Badger SLICK kit which, with the Cateye lens cover sells for almost $800. I’m glad I have mine because it’s rails are great for mounting my laser rangefinder on top of the spotter and the whole setup saved my scope when high winds blew it over and it went for a 5 foot drop onto concrete.

If he has the serial number, I believe you can call Leupold and check if it’s original.
