I ordered a Falcon Menace 4-14x44 Tactical 30mm Rifle scope with the ML16 reticle http://swfa.com/Falcon-Menace-4-14x44-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P47408.aspx from SWFA last week only to be notified it was on back order. The only one they have in stock is the EMD reticle http://swfa.com/Falcon-Menace-4-14x44-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P47573.aspx. Question #1: what do you all think of the heavy vertical and horizontal lines used in the reticle? Question #2: I did not ask if they were in stock, but another option would be the Illuminated B20 Reticle http://swfa.com/Falcon-Menace-4-14x44-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P57241.aspx. It's $50 more but would it be worth it? And last, if the battery goes dead ( I assume the illuminated retical runs off something) will you still have an etched retical? Thanks for you input.

Re: Falcon Menace Reticals

I tested 3 Falcon scopes about 6 months ago. My biggest complaint was that the reticle was too fine on both the 4-14x44FFP and the 5.5-25x56FFP. The 1.5-5x30IR was fine because of it's range and construction.

Until Falcon re-works their reticles I would go with a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP for just about the same money.

Re: Falcon Menace Reticals

There are quite a few threads on the FM scopes that you can search for.

I have the "heavy" reticule you asked about on my .22 trainer and I have absolutely no complaints. Previous to this I had it on a .223 AI and it was fine on that rifle as well. That rile shoots pretty tight and that scope did not reduce that rifle's capacity to do so. It was repeatable when dialing distances out to about 700 yards.

The question on the illuminated reticule being worth it is one only you can answer. The reticule is going to appear black when not illuminated or if the battery goes dead.
