fav off shelf 308 for 5-800 work out of rem 700p

I'm pretty sure that Federal Gold Medal Match (FGMM) is probably the most popular due to its price point and consistency. If you are going to be shooting 500 to 500 yards, skip the 168s and just use the 175s. I really don't see the point in shooting 168s unless there is a distinct cost savings, which there usually isn't. I shoot a 700P myself, although I chopped my barrel to 24" an had it threaded. Essentially, we are shooting the same rifle.

I am a pretty big fan of Southwest Ammo 175 LR. It is a tad cheaper than FGMM and I get a decent amount more muzzle velocity.
I've been wanting to try Copper Creek's 175 ammo, just been hard to break away from that Southwest stuff that shoots so well in my rifle.

I have a 700 PSS, 26" barrel; both 168 and 175 gr work great and, as Jethro3898 mentioned, the Fed GMM are GTG.
I always had good results with the 168 up to around 700/800 yards. I switched from the 168 to the 175 when I started to stretch the .308, as the 175 gave me better results passed 800 yards, the extra weight makes a difference. Nevertheless, try different ammo, as your rifle may like something else better.
If you reload, you may be spending some quality time figuring out your next load, plenty of good stuff out there, just don't get too fancy to start with. In addition, except if you have a "special connection", be ready for searching for ammo, or reloading components, as they are not as available as few months ago.
Have fun and let us know of your results.
Good shooting.

Personally I really like the southwest ammo but it does take some time to get it. Got some SW118LR from the group buy and it shoots great!! I have a 700pss cut to 22 inch. I think it shoots better than the FGMM but if you are looking off the shelf type stuff FGMM 175 is the way to go.

I've shot a lot of different ammo with my factory 700 police. What shot extremely well was the FGMM (most accurate and most consistent), both 168 and 175. I've shot plenty of Hornady, Peruvian, M118 (surprisingly accurate when grouped by weight),

Just got some SW ammo but haven't tried it yet...saving it for later. Based on everyone I've talked to, this is the ammo to get, given the price, consistency, accuracy...zero downside. I'd rather wait a month or two for this than pay retail +50% for FGMM.

If you don't reload, start. Rockchucker, beam balance, RCBS competition dies and a trimmer. Another option is to do Wilson dies and an Arbor press...just neck size.
