Re: Favorite folding knife.

Couple notes from reading the posts.

I will never buy a CRKT as had a good bud loose his finger just before OIF 1 due to faulty lock, he made money on it, but missed a good invasion.

I have had about 10 benchmade autos that were issued, I kept giving them away, and Gunny would keep giving me more... reason for them to evade my pocket was the handle sides were cheap powder injection molded parts... maybe the non issue benchmades are different, but steer clear of NSN auto.

Gerber made an NSN auto that was good with steel sides.

But again the Strider SMF is my pick, quality and robust, yet not too heavy for the pocket.

Re: Favorite folding knife.

I carried Spyderco knives for many years. I purchased a SOG Vulcan a few years ago and the thing is awesome. It was a little large for everyday carry so I bought a mini vulcan. The VG10 Steel blade is sure sharp and holds an edge awesome. I think whatever knife you get make sure you get a good sharpening system like the spyderco for it. I highly reccomend the SOG knoves. for <100$ they are top quality.

Re: Favorite folding knife.

Spyderco Lum Chinese! Liked it sooooooo much I bought three more. Then two spirt Lum Chinese releases. The spirt is nice but not as well put together as the first Lum.

Re: Favorite folding knife.

I'm a sucka for Strider SMF's with gunner grips. My EDC isa SMF Badlands and I have a Mick Nightmare custom that is pretty bad ass.
There are a lot of good knife makers out there these days.

Re: Favorite folding knife.

Over here carrying one hand folders got banned two years ago. Stupid laws, I feel a lot saver now (ironic mode)

So I modified my folders

MOD Pointman with homemade blade of SB1 steel,
Microtech mini Socom with SB1 blade,
SOG folder with plastic handle, can´t remember model, RWL 34 blade
Gerber EZ out with SB1 blade
Benchmade mini Rukus S30V blade

I carry always one of this folders, depending on clothing, scedule and mood. I made the blades myself, except the rukus.
You can see what blades I like.

I was never satisfied with the performance of most knives, so I started making knives myself. That SB1 steel is a propretiary steel of a German knive maker. He sells it at aprox. the cost of ATS 34. That stuff is superior to most available steel, IMHO it is as good as Busses INFI.

Re: Favorite folding knife.

I'm not a knife buff or Guru so after following this thread for a while and wanting a good set of quality knives, I finally settled on the Benchade Mini-Griptilian and the Benchmade 515 Rant DPT. Got them about two weeks ago and wow what a set of knives. I'll get some pics up later but they are great quality knive for sure. Probably the best knives I have owned to date.

It altmost cost me dearly on a hunt and being uneducated about quality knives. I had a knife kit that the blades were interchangable (a gift) that was suppose to be good stuff. The locking mechanism bent while dressing an Elk in Idaho miles from camp and many miles from help. Just about planted it into my thigh. It could have turned out really bad.

Left to right Benchmade Mini-Griptilian and Benchmade 515 Rant DPT then the KA-BAR Becker BKII that I bought to replace the knife I about ran into my leg (before I found Benchmade). I know the last two aren't folders but I lked the Rant and thought it was worth showing.

Thanks for the great thread.
