I am reloading my 22-250 which I want to use as a starter for the grandkids. I was wondering what loads are proving the most accurate. The cases I have now were loaded in 1979 with 35gr. of IMR4895 behind a 53gr. Sierra M-HP and Rem. 9 1/2 primers. Accuracy is "ground hog good at 660 yards" meaning I didn't keep records back then but varmits didn't stand a chance. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Also thinking about 55 grainers and possibly newer powders like Varget or H380. Your thoughts?

I have used this load for well over 3500 rounds and two barrels and several thousand prairie dogs will say its deadly.....that is if they were still in one piece.

Pretty close to mine minus the primers and 34.5g
Many a prairie dog at 400+ yards and numerous yotes have had a dramatic increase in the amount of lead in their diets.

I would simply switch to the appropriate charge of a temp stable powder and attempt to retain the rest. Varget would be my first choice.

52gr MatchKing and 36.0gr Varget loaded to Sierra book OAL. <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="color: #990000">Hot load</span></span>; accurate and devastating out to about 450yd, my longest shot so far. Left nothing above the bottom of the 'Chuck's brain pan.

Shoots in the .3 to .4 range out of my savage model 10 predator
Same load in winchester brass but with 35.0 grains of varget works well too.

55gr Bal Tips with 35gr. Varget
The 50 grainers shoot a little tighter in my rifle. They average .3"-.4 @100 and the 55 grainers average around .5-.6" @100. I've tried several different powders and Varget has been the most accurate in several different rifles with several different bullets.

38.5 grains compressed load. I have yet to find a gun that did not like this. Kinda of weird. Not hot, but really accurate, out of the 4-5 things I run it out of.

Thanks everyone, I picked up 1 lb. of Varget and 1 lb. of H380. Those teamed with 53 and 55 grainers should get me something my rifle likes. It was actually accurate before but I'd love to see the kids eventually get a one-hole group! Heck, who am I kidding, I'd like to get a one-hole group! Thanks again!

my 22-250 loves H380. my cuurent load is 37.8gr 5000th off lands; that has consistantly given me 1 hole or near 1 hole 5 shot groups at 100 yrds And was consistantly picking off prarrie poodles at 6-650yrd two weeks ago. Work around that 38 grain will give you very happy results

Most consistent loads have come from IMR 3031 with mine.
However, 34 grains varget, win primer, 1/2 groups, 55 sierra match bullets.

Primer- just about any standard
Bruce Hodgdon developed this powder for his 22-250, or so the story goes. I bump it to 40.0 gr and get excellent velocity and accuracy.
