I was gifted a brick of Federal Lightning. Never shot them, can't find much about them. High vel I think. Like anyone would turn down a brick of .22 nowadays anyway.
They have been in a closet for probably 10 years or more. Clean, dry and look brand new, no worries on my part. Anybody have any experience?

Blue boxes, no bar codes.

I bought 3 boxes of it from Wally World last year just cause it was all I could find. In a ammo test with my Win Mod 52, it performed the best of several standard (non-match) grade ammo brands. It is not up to the same level of performance as Eley Match for example. I shot a ARA match with Eley last December. It consisted of six cards. On the sixth and final card, I decided to try the Federal ammo for grins, since it had performed OK in testing. I fired 15 of the total 25 rds for score with the Federal Lightning ammo and then quickly replaced it with Eley to complete the card. The Federal ammo produced my worst score of the match and far and away underperformed compared to the match ammo. After switching back to Eley for the last 10 shots, I scored 8-tens and 4x's. Did this while also adjusting the scope back to match the original POI with the slower ammo.

With my short bbl gun the Federal Lightning is still subsonic.

It shoots pretty much the same as CCI Mini Mags for me at 50y. They do not seem to perform well after that in my rifle. I also do not shoot Mini Mags either. None the less it is very good ammunition to use for practice or plinking.

The Federal Lightning are all I shoot in my 10/22. They seem to shoot the best of all that I have tried. The last bricks that I bought was also from Wally World at $1,67/50. Now the are called Federal Champion 550.
