I am getting ready to purchase a CZ 452 for use as a trainer and am looking for an affordable FFP MOA/MOA scope. I know some of you will say to run the same scope that's on my main rifle, but I am not dropping 2.5k for a scope on a 22LR. I would like to keep it under 650 which I know is limiting, that's why I'm here.

Re: FFP MOA/MOA scope for .22 Trainer

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it some consideration.

I've been reluctant to use mil as the number with MOA come naturally to me. Basically I've been to lazy to learn mil...

Re: FFP MOA/MOA scope for .22 Trainer

Other than learning the mil relation formula for ranging, there isn't anything to learn.

What you see is what you get.

Shoot, measure the offset with your reticle and dial the correction.

The only time you need any type of math is if you can't observe the impact and you have to go downrange to spot the holes. Then you just remember that it's 3.6" per mil, per 100 yards.

Re: FFP MOA/MOA scope for .22 Trainer

The ranging formula is the problem for me. MOA I can typically do in my head instantly MIL not so much. I probably just need to get a mil dot master and practice until I get it.

.1 (1/10) mil = 1cm 0r 1/3 of an inch at a hundred 100 yards. Or at least extremely close to that. I think in thirds (1/3moa) instead of quarters (1/4moa) when target shooting at inch grid paper at 100 yards.

1 mil = 1 yard at 1000 yards or 1 meter at 1000 meters

OK, real quick. You have shot from 500 yards. Your group size is 5 inches. What is the group size in MOA, to the nearest hundredth of an MOA?

The answer is, no one cares. There isn't any need for speed in calculating group size.

Now, real quick. You have taken a shot from 500 yards. Looking through the scope, you see the shot was 0.3 mils low. How many 0.1 mil clicks do you come up? Well, duh - 3 clicks. Or you could just hold 0.3 mils higher. That's when you need speed.

Now, as long as the reticle and the scope adjustments are in the same system, it doesn't make any difference what that system is, but there are a lot more scopes with milliradian-based reticles than MOA or IPHY.

I have two CZ rimfires, a LUX 22LR and an American 22 mag great guns.

Buy this scope, shoot a lot with it, use the reticle to make your adjustments, use the reticle and the knobs, your clinging to a system you think you understand, I made the same mistake, please don't repeat it.

Re: FFP MOA/MOA scope for .22 Trainer

The Falcon 4-14FFP mil/mil has served me well on my rimfires. I prefer something with 0.5 mil ticks over a standard mildot...

Re: FFP MOA/MOA scope for .22 Trainer

With your guys advise I've decided to order a Vortex Solo to practice with. Figure it should help me out as I can use it pretty much anywhere. Once I'm proficient at ranging (the math in my head) with it I'll get a spotter and the .22 scope and go from there.

Thanks for the help

Re: FFP MOA/MOA scope for .22 Trainer

I feel the Bushnell would be a great way to go. The Vortex Viper would be another great way to go. You can make a MIL RET read in MOA, you will need to back the power down some, when you see the MIL Line or Dot read 4moa mark the power ring. Now you can do MIL or MOA.

I went with a Bushnell TACTICAL.
