Yes, I realize that you can get both in one scope. If you had to choose, which do you think is more useful and why? All other variables--magnification range, adjustment type, optical clarity--should be considered equal. This would be for both formal KD matches and practical/tactical shooting.

I'll second that, by a long shot!

In events I can see the FFP being more useful. Consider how many stages are shot during the day vs night or low light conditions.

Because FFP is way more useful and will get used much more than an illuminated reticle. Illuminated reticles are nice to have but not always needed. I think I used my illuminated reticle once last year at a match but used my FFP reticle at every match

Re: FFP vs. Illuminated reticle--which and why?

I have both on my current scope. I have yet to use my illumination. Even in REALLY dark conditions, if I can see the target, I can see my reticle. Caviat is that it has really good glass but I think this holds true in general.

You will benifit from the use of a FFP on every follow up shot, every wind hold...a lot.

In my opinion, yes-if it can be afforded at all.

If not, the good thing with USO is that when you order you can tell them to make sure its built in a tube that can have illumination added later and they can do that for you.

Re: FFP vs. Illuminated reticle--which and why?

I would chose the ffp over the reticle. I use it every time I shoot and the reticle is something that is not really needed where I hunt and shoot because can't hunt at night where I live. I have hunted at night in Texas and using a spot light if you can see the target you can see the cross hairs
