i did a search but got a bunch of junk!

My question is whats everyones take on this program. It sounds good just looking for some input. i was going to go with Moball but i am not crazy about the TI Voyger that it has to be run on. i like the idea of a small PDA. i am running exball now and like it but want to run G7 BC.

The current version limit is 4000 yards.

I took Lindy's advice a few years ago, and I've been happy ever since. I haven't found any programs that go into as much detail, and that are as accurate as FFS. If you have a target that is 2,661 yards, with 3 different wind directions, it will give you the solution.

Horus Vision has the worse customer service ever and consider yourself lucky that the program even works. I have a brand new chip from them that has never worked from day one and after numerous attempts no one ever responded to a single request, either by phone, email, or through a 3rd party to fix it.

The Tactical Version of FFS is beyond simple to use and very effective.

Given many shooters probably shoot inside 1000 yards is FFS of any more use than say using a proper g7 input with ballistic FTE on an IPhone -given the FFS costs 2-300 us dollars and ballistics FTE cost 30 odd dollar as does pejsa which can be on a handheld device -or Quick target being free and done with a dopplar raydar.Now in no way am I knocking FFS especially given a sharp mind like Lyndy rates it big! but how much use is it for inside 1000 yard shooting more so than the other programs .Below are some examples of the 3 programes I mention with the same data -which one can manipulate also to input real world hits data if these dont prove to be exact enough


28.49 moa pejsa -G1
28.57 quick target lapua -DOPPLA
28.03 ballistics FTE -G7

If you are shooting inside 1K, in generally the same locations, you probably don't need software at all. A simple set of data cards will do fine.

For an operational sniper, FFS has utility far beyond simple elevation calculations.

If you shoot to extreme ranges and/or under widely varied conditions/locations, then some sort of program is a requirement to a high success rate. If all you care about is an elevation prediction, almost anything will do.

Choosing a program is much more about the desired feature set and how those feature apply to the mission then it is about the 'precision' of the elevation/windage estimate. All of the common programs are capable of being tuned to give a shootable solution. No other program has anything like the feature set of FFS Delta IV, but if those features have no utility for you, what does it matter?

CoryT I concur with what you say -but even if you dont shoot in the same place as I do upto 1k my point is any program will do even if you are a duty rifleman .I think my bend on this was really that a program like FFS assisted those who shoot out past 1K and who have to have better transonic caculations -agree or disagree?what are the some of the caculations that make FFS so good compared to other programes .
I myself do shoot to 1k often enough and am let dowm not by my dope with the less expensive programes but my inconsitant reloading and technique.Regards all

It's not the 'calculations', by which I take to mean elevation and windage predictions that make FFS a superior program.

FFS offers the working sniper a number of valuable tools, such as direct integration of laser rangefinders, offset compenstation for alternate ammunition, target coordinates via the LRF/GPS, measurement of wind speed and moving target speed via the reticle and timer, target grouping with instant VMil values on target selection, path metrics for danger space/PBZ/Max Ord, and more.

These items are all quite valuable at any range, making a professionals job simpler and more accurate with less work/time required. If all you do is shoot static targets on the one-way range, then as I said, pretty much any of the programs will get it done, most can give reasonable results to the max range of the common cartridges, certainly within most shooters ability to hold.

What Cory said,..its a stunning tool if setup and utilsed to its full extent. Its geared to getting a first round cold bore shot on target.

It does that well.

I pay for my gear, thank you very much. I've run a number of systems, Horus, Ballistic, Patagonia, CheyTac ABC to name the most popular. I've got more than 4 years of testing in, between me, students and other staff. We believe it's the most usefule system for a working professional, it's that simple.

I use Exbal on a Palm for most things. It works very well and is all that is necessary for most matches and for processing and documenting a solution for a cold bore shot in the field. FFS is valuable for the path metrics and reverse-offset stuff necessary with the more complex courses of fire; and because of its ability to input multiple winds, GPS, and coriolis I use it at more extreme ranges.

Blaine doesn't pay me a dime, and in my opinion the expanded FFS is the best package available.

which version is the Tactical version of ffs i only see version III or IV on their site, if it works as good and is alittle cheaper i am interested.

Tactical is only available from Ashbury International Group. It differs from IV only in the list of rangefunders supported (military only units) and some 'simplification' of the main display. The Turret Solution box is gone, the Mil or MOA box is just the corrected value to dial. I'm not looking at the display, there are a couple other minor changes to menus.

IV is the full feature set program, III is enough for most casual shooting.
