So after lots of rounds down range I am finally happy. A little history, I sold my 5r barreled action a while back and was talked into a Savage FCP McM in 308. I was having a hard time getting anything to shoot better than 2 MOA. Sent the rifle back to Savage and they fixed the crown. After the crown was fixed they sent me a target back with 168 TAP producing .6MOA.
So began load development all over again. I decided to do something different and went with TAC. I am getting good accuracy with it, around .75-1MOA out to 500y when I was up north.
Unfortunately no one in the area carries it and the wife and I have a weekend class up at Camp Grayling June 1-3. So I scoured the "reloading depot" on here. Saw someone else was shooting the same rifle with the 175's as well with Varget. I was getting low on bullets and decided, what the hell I will give it a whirl.
First time the Varget went out I didn't have my chrono with me and gave me about .75MOA group knowing that I let one rip when I was not paying attention to my breathing.
So I had 8 smk's left so I ran a test with a 4 rd group of each. Varget is the winner. Dots are 1" dots.
TAC 43.1g, 175smk, Fed Nato brass, 210M, loaded to 2.80
AV-2671 ES-54.88 SD-23.13
Varget 44.5g, 175smk, Fed Nato brass, 210M, loaded to 2.80
AV-2707 ES-19.95 SD-8.77
While I was letting the barrel cool back off after some fouling rounds these two walked out and decided to stick around and be in my way. They walked out and stuck around for a while. I was starting to get pissed because I wanted to shoot and get out of there. They were there for about 20-30min.
