I have managed to assemble a complete 33 year set of The Double Gun Journal!

The greatest repository of knowledge of the SXS and O/U shotgun there is. Some years are damn near impossible to complete.

I started subscribing in 1993 and dropped about 1998. Picked up a few here and there. But back in January got serious about finishing the set.

And today, the last 4 four issues I needed went in my cabinet!

Today is a good day. If you need double gun info… I got a couple of indexes, too!

Congratulations. I sold my complete set with indexes about five years ago. I looked forward to each issue's arrival for a lot of years. Same thing with Shooting Sportsman. I still have a bunch of hard-cover books that are full of arcane knowledge and some old old Shooting Sportsman that would be about impossible to find. There's some great fiction in the old SSs.

If any of you guys are interested in a SxS, this is a buyer's market. If you don't know the guns and the market find somebody that does. It's easy to step on your crank if you don't know what to look for. There is no better bird-gun than the right SxS.

Absolutely true on the buyers market. Everyone is hoarding black rifles and the finest shotguns are down significantly.

That said, over time, they are 'up' value-wise so much more than my 401k it's amazing. Though that's not why we own and covet them. They are incredible in the field. Pheasant, quail, grouse, woodcock.... and nothing wrong with the duck and goose blind, just be diligent on cleaning! I had a blast last fall with a 19th century Purdey shooting quail down in Alabama.

The best deals right now are on the Fox (Phila.) guns and some of the low grade Parkers... A Trojan 20 is one of the best-handling American guns ever made. But the English stuff is also going cheap, at least temporarily. That will swing back...

Nothing like a hand made shotgun on a crisp fall morning!

Cheers,

Sirhr
