Well I finally got my 7PRC done. Bighorn Origin, Area 419 rings and arca, Manners EH1-A stock in scorched earth high gloss (so damn beautiful, the pic doesn’t do it justice), Nightforce NX8, Proof Research 24” barrel, SRS titanium brake, and good ol’Atlas Cal. It comes together fully chonky at 12lbs.

Had its maiden voyage today at the range. Only have Precision Hunter on hand, but here’s an example of 2 groups. Will see how it goes as the barrel breaks in and as I try different loads. Any other recommendations for factory ammo to try? I may start hand loading for it, but am short on free time at the moment.

She looks good have the same build being done by SAC, except a manners PH and a 22” carbon barrel. Up in the air with the NX8 To get the 32x or do the ATACR but only get 20x Technically building it for hunting but honestly it’ll be at the range more than anything. That’s where I’m confused by which scope to do. Currently have a 5-25 ATACR but think the 5 is too much magnification for a potential short range animal kill. But also wanna be able to bang steel at 1000 Decisions decisions

For what it’s worth, I recently put together a 7PRC with a Proof 22” barrel and it doesn’t care for the Hornady factory loads (they shoot very well through my Seekins though).

If you start down the hand loading route, I’ve had pretty good luck with Berger 180 VLD’s. Their 168 hybrids do pretty well too.

Good looking rig, best of luck finding what it likes to shoot.

Beautiful GUN! I’m jealous, I’m building one myself right now. Should be done in a few weeks. I’ve been doing a ton of research on available ammo and I just ordered a box of federal terminal ascent. I’ve read some good reviews and I plan to take the gun on a moose hunt this September, so I need some thing a little sturdier than the ELDX.

I love that bullet though. Federal is also loading the ELD X, and while it’s a little bit more expensive than the Hornady, I’ve been reading that people are getting a little better velocity out of it. I may pick up a box for the hunting that I do in Arizona and Mexico.

@Cheeseburger1976 thank you for the kind words. I know the struggle is real with scope selection when it comes to magnification, ffp, and hunting. I’m very happy with the NX8 glass and build quality. Will have to see how it works hunting this year.

@cdq8047 thank you for the tips brother. I am going to try so more factory offerings first, but if I do go to reloading, I’ll try those bullets out for sure.

@shadydiesel mannnnnnn don’t rub it in lol! That’s a hell of a shooter and a looker.

@Kyle Graf thank you for the kind words. I’ll check into those federal rounds. Good luck on the upcoming hunts!

Another option for a great crossover scope is the March FX Highpower 4.5-28x52. It has a massive FOV compared to most so 4.5 power has been plenty low for close in stuff for me and having 28 on the high end is great for long shots, and it’s light enough to not be a boat anchor. I’ve been using mine on a Desert tech SRS for about a year and love mine as a do-everything scope.

Interesting, I hate to cheat on my Nightforce addiction but that FX is sweet

Yea man. The NX8 4-32 is like perfect for low end magnification and high end for long distance . I need to look through one in person . I love love my 5-25 ATACR and would love another NF.

I just got mine together and started a load ladder for it, 22” proof, defiance, I’ve had trouble with the accurate 3.580 mags, I had to open the lips to get consistent feeding

Beautiful gun @Ohiohuntr ! I need to get my hands on a suppressor soon. I did take my gun out again the other day and it is starting to tighten up. Maybe some barrel seasoning/break in lol. Who knows, will most likely just end up reloading and trying for bug hole type accuracy.

Mine sped up about 50fps with the 22” barrel after about 75 rnds, hanging in about 2925 with the factory hornady 175 eldx, however the gun definitely prefers the 180 eldm in the factory flavors. I loaded up a ladder with H1000 and am hoping to get out this week to see what it likes, I have some 180 VLD’s that I’m gonna do a ladder for as well. Chiefsillyhorse helped me set the rifle up and has been a bad influence on me with these guns lol

My 7PRC was built with similar components. Origin, 24” Proof, Manners Pro Hunter, Hawkins Hunter DBM, Leupold Mk5 with Gunwerks reticle. I just finished putting 100rnds of factory Hornady (same lot) 175gr ELDX through it over the winter. I was hoping the Hornady load would shoot well at a descent velocity so I could just run factory ammo, but it didn’t. Groups were 3/4” @ 100 and velocity was low. Bbl only sped up 50fps (now 2889) after the 100 rounds. I’ve taken it to 1018 and closer several times and it smacks steel. Just annealed the Hornady brass with an AMP and will FL resize, trim, prime and start load development. Have 175gr Berger Elite Hunters and R26, N570, H1000 and 7828 to try. Not going to try all the powders if I find one that shoots. NM Elk tag draw is mid April 🙏. Good luck everyone.

Went out today with 175eldx and h1000 loaded in half grns from 65.5 to 68 the gun shot best at 66gn at 2803 fps. I got slight swipe marks at 67.5
Loaded 180 vlds from 65-67 and got swipes at 66.5 best group was at 66. The vlds definitely shot better than the eldx. I will try some 4831sc next

Thank you for sharing! I’ve heard that RL26 seems decent for 7PRC. Anyone tried that?
