.308 guys have spent decades behind MOA scopes HOPING they have finally gotten the right hand load figured out.
People like you with your 6.5CM and MIL scope show up at the range with your factory boxed ammo putting bug holes into target on the same day you bought the rifle. Yes...it happens....

Everybody jokes about everything on here. Nothing wrong with 6.5cm.
It created a bunch of hype for a long time when it first came out. People that weren't really serious shooters bought into it that really didn't know why they bought it, they were just following the marketing.
Having said that, its a good cartridge and is currently my favorite for match shooting and hunting. I'm thinking about building another one right now.

Great caliber it's just hazing.....enjoy it. You will come to flat out love it should you have some folks at your range tell you what a waste of time 6.5 is for such and such a task. If you can shoot well then the 6.5 will be something you can have a ton of fun with, incredibly easy to find a multitude of powder/pills that shoot great and quite economical to shoot a lot of it. I spent a lot of time looking at a different caliber as my current barrel is definitely getting close to the grave, but quite frankly for the up front cost to build a 30cal flavor and then recurring cost to feed it over what I pay now I just don't see any reason to go that route at present.

Build it, it shoot it and enjoy it and the tell those giving you shit to go fuck themselves. Been shooting one for over ten years and have a couple in my safe. Good ballistic performance, easy on barrels as well as to reload. Won't run with the 6.5 wildcats like a 6.5 GWI but will hold its own. I'll probably get flamed by the Dasher fanboys but what the hell. BTW a friend of mine who is a national high power champion shoots a 6.5 CM.
If you like the cartridge go enjoy it. Do not let the curmudgeons on this site change your mind.
It received all the hype from anyone who knows nothing about ballistics. It was made out to be some god tier cartridge that nothing else could accomplish. I said I would never own a 6.5cm but I don't know if I could pass if I came across one of the Henry long ranger.

My buddy owns one. He was perfectly normal when he owned one in 308. Since getting the 6.5 we can’t eat cheddar brats at camp anymore…..

The worst thing you can do is come on this site and worry about these fools making jokes about cartridges.
Pick a cartridge that checks all your desired boxes and shoot the hell out of it.
But to answer your question, there's nothing wrong with it. Its a really good all around cartridge. You made a good choice. You can shoot targets out to 1200 or so, and it will reliably kill most all North American game. Good barrel life, feeds well, plenty of load data, factory ammo, and its good for something besides playing games where the only goal is to scratch paint.

As said, nothing wrong w 6.5 CM. As mentioned, good ballistics, easy reloading, ample factory ammo when there still was ample factory ammo, and you can throw enough weight for hunting.
Good round as is the .260 Rem except that Hornady did a much better job of promoting it and supporting a surrounding ecosystem for it in the gun industry/shooting community.
It gets the manbun hate treatment because it's fucking hilarious.

For target shooting I think the 6.5 is a great choice. Cost/components etc.
For hunting I like the 308 to 500 yards or so. The CM tends to take over at the longer distances 700+ yards for hunting compared to 308. However I prefer a bigger cartridge in 284 or 30 cal (7mm/300) etc for the longer work
As far as what the 6.5 does vs a 260 (which has been around for a long time) the 6.5 does offer the shorter length for magazine feeding when using heavier bullets. Should be a good choice for AR10. For a bolt gun it depends on the manufacturer chamber for how close you come to the lands vs available mag length
Loading the same components (Lapua brass/143 ELDX/H4350/CCI200) I’ve achieved higher FPS with the 260 without running into the pressure signs I did with the 6.5. Both savage rifles
If I was deciding on a target gun. Between 6.5/260 it be 260 because I reload. 6.5 definitely wins if I’m running factory ammo. I still choose 308 for hunting inside 500 yards

The only big issue is all the fudds who buy one and talk about how “it’ll shoot over 1000 yards” but have never shot over 200. They read one article and now they have the end all be all round that’ll outshoot anyone and everyone with their mossberg mvp. More than once I’ve been told it’s the best cartridge ever invented...no, it’s not. It isn’t bad, but it’s not amazing either.
