Looking for advise, want to put together a very well stocked first aid kit for the home, something that will work for everyday use and something for SHTF type of scenario.
Any suggestions from you fellows would be appreciated

Re: First Aid Kits

I built a lot of stuff into a backpack with survival gear that I take out on hunting trips out shooting. The med pack is a separate pack that attached to the backpack so I can take the smaller med pack when traveling, going to the park and other places where my kid might get hurt but cold weather survival isn't an issue.

I have quick clot, a lot of gauze, butterfly closures, stitches, band-aides, snake bit kit, lots of ointments, pills, hemostats, scalpel, few syringes and all kinds of bandages and a host of other odds and ends. It's a pretty small pack, about 6x6x4" and I keep an index card on the front pocket telling me what's in it and where.

There is a lot to this topic based on who you are expecting to treat, and for what injuries you are preparing for, and what training you or the responder will have. Tough to have a good answer beyond the pre-packaged first aid kits that anyone is capable of using until you nail down what you are trying to cover. If you want something more in depth than the walmart specials you have to have someone capable of making use of it...if you dont have that consider EMT classes or a wilderness medicine class, then you will be able to answer your own question.

Re: First Aid Kits

I would have to second what KYP says. My med bag is fairly large but contains basic first aid supplies to IV fluids based on my level of training. You really need to decide what you are capable of doing and wanting to cover.

I will say one thing often overlooked in med kits is Benadryl which can be a lifesaver in allergic (anaphylaxis) reaction situations such as bee stings.

Re: First Aid Kits

Always include Benadryl , epi pen, quick clott, antiemetics, anti diarrhea meds, suture material, sulfa drugs, backing soda, just to begin with.
