Hunting & Fishing First blood with Dakota 6.5 Grendel

Shot this guy at 156yds, 130 gr Berger VLD "Hunting" bullet. Qyartering away, hit behind and below shoulder, heart I guess. Dropped, twitched a bit, croaked. Hope to try on deer in two weeks.

Great! What length barrel and what velocity are you getting out of the 130 Bergers? My younger brother had a one shot stop on a mature Mule deer this year with a 6.5 Grendel and a 120gr Nosler BT at 493 yards. From a 16" AR carbine.

It's a 24" barrell, 28.0gr VV-540, seated to 2.36 AOL (one benefit of the bolt gun), 2405 fps at 10 feet from the muzzle.

sounds like your carbine is right on!!! great caliber so far, accurate, no recoil, seems to like all powders. hope to kill a deer durring our doe and spike season next weekend

i hit him right under the rock that is stuck to his side with mud.
