First can- ammo rec’s

Got my first can finally… socom 300sps, on Noveske 10.5” gen 4 shorty.
Ran some sig 220gr and it was a pretty loud. Tried some Hornady black 208 and it was noticeably more quiet, but still louder than expected, and didn’t cycle.

Have added adjustable gas block now, but wondering what ammo is recommended to get as quiet as possible off the shelf?

Adjustable gas block. Turn it off so that the action doesn’t cycle. And then, adjust your expectations. It’s not going to sound like a movie suppressor. 130-140db isn’t a mouse fart. It is substantially louder than a pellet gun, regardless of what anyone says. But, it’s also substantially quieter than an unsuppressed supersonic cartridge. A bolt gun will be quieter than an AR.

Only quiet semi auto I have with a suppressor is a 9mm CZ scorpion but even that bolt is loud operating.

Like mentioned above turn the grass all the way off and that’s the quietest your going to get.

I've done a lot of testing regarding homegrown subsonic loads in 300BLK.

Some combinations work a lot better than others.

As far as factory ammo goes if you can get your hands on some 194 grain expanding all copper ammo from Beck Ammunition, that is by far the quietest stuff I've tried from any manufacturer.

It ain't cheap but the combination of ingredients there is something to behold.

I made up some loads with 125 gr bullets and trailboss. They were surprisingly quiet without the suppressor attached. But, they didn’t cycle the action at the highest charge so I didn’t pursue the experiment further. If I wanted a quiet single shot semi auto, I’d look to a similar combination.

As stated above, it'll never be movie quiet so I prioritize function and accuracy/precision. I shoot a mixture of Gorilla supers and subs because they run will in my gun, are accurate, and have good terminal effects.

Not to shit on your choices, as you were probably steered wrong by some idiotic fanboys, or the "experts" on the interwebz... But that can choice isn't exactly the "cream of the crop" for maximum sound suppression in .300 BLK. For maximum quietness, you'd want something along the lines of the Dead Air Nomad-L or Nomad-LT, Otter Creek Labs Hydrogen-L, TBAC Magnus, or CGS Hyperion...

I can tell that on my 10" and 16" .300 BLK's with 220 sub handloads, my Nomad-LT and Hydrogen-L are about as silent as you can get an AR rifle. You still get the slight port pop and the action cycling, but other than that, it's pretty much "hollywood quiet".

Hand loading is going to be your best bet, from a cost and sound standpoint. Powder coated cast 220 grain bullets are cheap, and something like CFE Blk, or IMR 4198 powder will get you a load that cycles and is quiet. 30 cents per round is also a lot easier to swallow than $1+.

The .300 sps might not be as quiet as some of the newer high-volume cans, but it was designed specifically for this round and should be very quiet if they gun/ammo are correct. Adjustable gas block, or a heavier buffer might help - you're likely getting a loud port pop.

My blackout with an Omega .30 sounds the same as an MP5 with subs.

I have a 8.3 barreled 300BLK with a standard gas block. I shoot 220 gr subs with an AAC SDN-6 (the can that 300BLK was designed to be used with) and it is as quiet as my 147 gr 9mm with a can on it. You can hear the buffer spring and the bolt cycling.
