Re: First focal plane and second focal plane
It is totally against the rules to keep your own score in Registered matches, because you can set national records.
A couple years back, Bayou started holding all registered LR matches because we have members who can and do set national records. This meant of course, that we had to go to three relays; shoot, score, pits. That worked fine for the first few months but when we got into summer, it got difficult. You see, in Houston, it gets hot in summer and with three relays, we have to spend an additional hour and a half to two hours in the noonday sun. Since we advertised Registered matches we had to go through that entire year with three relays, and summertime attendance dwindled.
But we got smarter and we decided to register seven LR matches instead of all twelve and so the May-September matches are not registered and you cannot set national records. We are also able to finish the match right around noon or 12:30 as opposed to 1:30 or 2:00PM or later.
Personally, I would rather shoot in 3-relay matches, because I can concentrate more on my shooting but the extra two hours in the sun is something I am happy to avoid. In September 2008, hurricane Ike took down our 1000 yard cover that we had just put up and we had to wait awhile to get the cover we now have.
