I’m ready to drop some scratch. Months of research, reading, videos, agonizing over internet photo comparisons, etc. We’ve all been there, right?

Here’s my intended purposes:

1.) I’m not planning on doing any CQB or door kicking.

2.) I am planning on doing some non-tacticool rural patrols and in-place recon once land navigation is complete (maintaining white light discipline would be key here)

3.) I do plan on using in conjunction with a FLIR Breach for clandestine nocturnal rural/suburban pest neutralization sorties.

4.) I’d like to try driving dark in a controlled area.

5.) Not urban, no plans on using in urban environments. Mostly thick timber and and edges.

6.) If I love it, I am open to getting a second PVS-14 with parallel specs to bridge together. I currently use a Crye Nightcap with the Breach.

7.) I prefer to buy once/cry once, but That doesn’t mean I don’t have a budget. Value trumps price, whatever that ends up being.

8.) Epstein didn’t kill himself.

With those facts laid out, here is where I have come to a block. I’m pretty sure I want a L-3 Flimless WP IIT for it’s supreme low light performance (unaided). But...............those Photonis Echo WP tubes appear to be alllllllmost there for nearly $2K less. Is the Filmless $2K better?

Also, really don’t care about generations as long as the specs are high, meaning a gen 2 with better specs should be better than a gen 3 with lower specs, right?

For driving, youd have an advantage with dual tubes. While you CAN drive with just a single PVS14, something like dual 14s is better and an ANVIS 9 just ruins you.

However, since you're wanting to use the FLIR as well as nightvision, I think getting a bridge would be the best way to go. Two warnings; you wont use NV and thermal simultaneously as in, they don't merge in your brain. Thermal is basically a 2D black/white image and NV is a 3D intensified light image. Secondly, the FLIR breach fucking sucks as far as mounting on a bridge because the people who designed (or lack of) the housing made it absolutely retarded and you'll be lucky to max out the left/right/up/down single side adjustment on a RQE bridge to get it to line up with your eye while using a PVS14 on the other side. It's one of the many reasons I ditched mine and went back to a PAS23.

My suggestion would be this:

Helmet
RQE bridge
PVS14 on one side via M clips
Try to get the FLIR to work on the other side with M clips as well as have the option of getting a 2nd PVS14 for a dual tube setup even though this will be heavy

Also remember you'll need to update your counterweight setup accordingly.

I can drive down dirt and county roads like it was daytime with a dual tube setup. Only thing you may need depending on the terrain (canopy) or the lack of moon light are vehicle IR driving lights to help.

I use the same setup with the PAS23. If Im not using ANVIS9, I have this setup on and use the 14 normally over my non dominant eye, and when I want a quick thermal check, flip the PAS23 down and look around and then flip it back up. Another bonus is you can always keep the FLIR/PAS23 in a pocket and scan even if you have the dual tubes as the bridge allows you to flip each out of the way individually.

If you want buy once/cry once suggestion, I say sell the FLIR, buy a PAS23 and either 2x PVS14 or a ANVIS9. Then add a helmet, Lo-Sto mount, 4D tactical helmet pads, PEQ15 (not the shit tier civilian one), Aimpoint Micro or EoTech XP3 on a KAC riser mount.

1) RQE bridge
2) Skip the Echos, stay with the L3 filmless if supreme low-light performance is what you seek
3) Sell the Breach and buy a Skeet (you did say you were a buy once, cry once guy! ?)

Edit: I "think" you need the K-clips for the breach to used on the RQE bridge

I picked up a set of L3 WP RNVGs and absolutely love them. A pvs 14 with L3 tubes seems to fit your request pretty well, but I will say that having dual tubes makes goofing off at night a whole lot nicer. Dual pvs 14s might be a bit heavier and more bulky than dedicated duals. A set of DTNVGs might work for you if using thermal as well. With the RNVGs I don’t find it too difficult to use a thermal weapon sight, but an articulating unit would be nice just for that.

Some of you boy have toys that are out of my realm of reality....

The RQE bridge with the appropriate adapters for a PVS-14 & Breach has been my plan, so thanks for affirming that. Sounds like I should do the filmless, which is kinda what I thought.

If I find this is just a gateway setup for a much deeper addiction I will cross that bridge when I reach it, but this is just messin’ around fun stuff for me at this point. Dropping 5 digits is more than I care to do at this juncture, but I like that you fellas do!

The good news is, if you did want to go with a PVS14/dual PVS14, you can find them for a great deal if you shop around and know what you're looking for both on here and EE's on other sites.

Seems a lot of people buy them and then realize they need to spend a ton more money to properly use them and/or they are the first things sold, often barely used, when people need cash.
