Hello all,
New to sniper hide an could use some advice. I putting together a Tika CTR on a bravo chassis and was planning to use it just for competition.
I shoot a Tikka T3x lite in 308 for hunting but thought of getting a 6.5 creedmoor for PRS .
Lenght for the rifle I thought would be 20" but being my first rifle and guidance on this would be great.

If you can get one with 24 inch barrel it would be better in my opinion since you already have a dedicated hunting rifle. You can then use the 6.5 strictly on PRS events, unless the 24 inch barrel doesn't bother you and you would want to take it on a hunt I suppose you could!

if you know you're gonna be throwing it in a bravo and need AICS mags i'd go a different route
buy another t3 lite
yank original barrel and stock (save for another possible hunting cartridge if desired, or sell)
get a tikka prefit with the exact contour/twist/length you want

.5moa on nearly every 24" 6.5CM Tikka CTR I've seen... I just don't understand the call for a new barrel right out of the gate. Keep it simple. With a $3,500 budget, you can get all the gadgets and gizmos you need. Frankly, I'd be looking into courses in your area to get the most benefit from your decisions.

You could, if you really want a 6.5 just modifying what you have.

6.5 is fine to hunt with and you'l know it like the back of your hand if you are also competing.

1. Get the Chassis or Stock you want -
2. I'd keep your Tikka stock for hunting - really how often do you go? If you need to really lighten it up pop it back on.. Although, I went with a T4-A and it came in under 3lbs so I just keep the same stock for both.
3. Get two new 6.5 barrel blanks. One in a very heavy match profile MTU/M24 spin it for a brake or other straight taper for posistiinal matches - the extra weight helps self-spot and one a feather weight or a Proof (saves 3lbs) - I still thread my hunting barrels
4. Have them custom spun and chambered for your gun - do not worry about pre-fits and head space gauges etc.. If they are custom by a good smith like Spartan Rifles etc.. they should spin back on fine.. Benchrest guys have been doing this for many years to save their competition barrels
5. Get an action wrench and a barrel vice

Ya you'll have to resero but so what

PS If you decide to do a field match with hiking run the Proof with your Chasis

All your replay have been great. I'm not sure of part selection to do a build. Still learning about this. I more specific parts could be posted I would be very thankful.
