First Rifle Advice

Hello everyone I'm new to the hide and serious long range shooting. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have now saved up enough money that I can start realistically thinking about getting my first serious rifle and am hoping some of you experienced shooters can give me some helpful advice on my choices so far.

I have pretty much decided on the Remington entry package offered over at Sniper central. The price looks right, and they will take care of some of the extra work that I don't necessarily have the skills or time to do.

So far it looks like I will be getting:

<ul style="list-style-type: disc">[*]Remington 700 Heavy Barreled Action, 26" barrel length in .308[*]Bell & Carlson Light Tactical Medalist Synthetic Stock[*]Harris Bipod[*]SS 10x42 Tactical Rifle Scope with MOA adjustments(I know mil seems to be preferred here but I can't really afford that price jump)[/list]
Scope may change based on what my budget turns out to be, which is really restrictive.
So I'm just wondering what you fellas think about this build. Am I getting my money's worth, any alternate suggestions as for different scope choice, or even a different source for my first rifle altogether?

For how much are you going to pay for that package? Does that include the scope as well?

The package starts at $1150, includes all the goodies such as rings, scope, etc. Main variable in the price is scope, I haven't had the package priced with my choice of scope yet. The $1150 is with a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40mm Tactical Scope with mildot reticle.

You might like the Super Sniper better. I do, JMO. I used one of the 3200 10X40's on a 10/22 once and it was ok but I went back to the SS 10X42. I just thought it was much better. My thoughts only though, I'm sure you will hear both sides on that.

I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 and it is a good scope, especially when considering it's less than $200.

Mel's package is a very good package to start. I wouldn't hesitate recommending a friend to that kit.

I might look to upgrade the scope. It is a good scope for glass on a budget, but you will likely be happier with something better. The Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50 tactical is a very good option (I had one until I upgraded to a Nightforce). I might also look at the Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 Tactical.

The 4200 and 6500 look like pretty good options but neither are FFP are they? That is a strong preference for me when it comes to variable optics.

In any case both stretch my budget and would probably lead to delaying my purchase, less money for ammo and a membership at the range; so for now I think the Super Sniper might be the best I can do for what I've got to work with.

That rifle linked above looks pretty nice, but for me there is just something about having the rifle made for me, knowing exactly what it is and where it came from.

I have a good .308 just listed, if you are interested. Never fired, expect it shoots well. best of luck with your rifle purchase.

According to Scott at Liberty Optics, Bushnell just announced at the SHOT show FFP Bushnell 6-24x50 and 2.5-16 (or close to that) FFP scopes with illuminated mil-dot reticles.

Depending on when they become available you may want to consider that route.
