Now that it is official I am dieing to buy my first suppressor. I want a .308 suppressor to fit a couple of my rifles, a heavy barrel 700 and a AR10 varient. I have narrowed it down to two (I think).

First is the Surefire FA762K and secondly is the ACC 762-SDN-6 (UPDATED: or SAS Arbiter or TBAC 30BA)

Anyone hae experience with both? Obvously I am looking for sound suppression but I am also looking for durability and the least amount of POI shift. ACC states that the SDN can be used with 5.56 as well is the same true for the Surefire?

I appoligize if this has been posted before but I cann't find it. I am also open to other suggestions, I don't want my first suppressor to be a bust, the wait is to long to get this wrong.

Re: Newbie looking to buy first suppressor

When I was shopping for two of them in april. I decided to stay with what I feel is the top three.
Gemtech, AAC, and AWC.
I went with two Gemtechs, mainly for there awesome customer service and rep. Also, something called Gemtax helped. I feel that surefire is over priced but maybe by now they are a little better.

Re: Newbie looking to buy first suppressor

You'll find when dealing with quality suppressors, they will all sound VERY similar. Any 308 can will work with a 223. Attacment becomes the issue. If you're going for a "QD" attachment, make sure the mounts are avalible in both 5/8x24 and 1/2x28.

I would recommend you look at the SAS Arbitor. Its avalible in Ti as a direct thread, "over the brake" and a true QD mount. For the price they are very hard to beat. Mile High Shooting is a stocking dealer and a member here on the hide.

Re: Newbie looking to buy first suppressor

I do like the looks and weight of the SAS. How repeatable is the POI after removing and reinstalling? The AWC looks a bit heavy for me. Please keep the opinions comming I am hopeing to buy one Tuesday.

Re: Newbie looking to buy first suppressor

I have the AAC m4-2000 and the AAC 762SD. If I had to do it over I would get the AAC 762SDN-6 first and then think about one of the shorter, lighter cans for the 223.

Re: Newbie looking to buy first suppressor

well here's my opinion on what i found:
I purchased the 762SD for my R700 & AR-10, I tired out the 762sdn-6 on both weapons and the 762sd had a better sound to me. I then tried it on my SR-15 and although it was an inch bigger than the M4-2000 it was quieter. So that was the first can I bought and used on both. I next plan on buying a C3 defense for the 223 as it is DAM!! cheap and has a great sound and lightweight.

just waiting for my 9mm & 22 can to come back

my advice is listen to as many suppressors as you can...

Re: Newbie looking to buy first suppressor

crackerbacks, the repeatability of the SAS systems whether the QD or Thread Over Muzzle Brake (TOMB) systems is absolute. What we offer is the owner send the weapon in, we will check the barrel threading or thread as required, install your muzzle brake, test fire the system for suppressed and unsuppressed POI proof target. In my experience, what we are looking for will be less than 2moa POI, repeatability and simply testing prior to the end user receiving something that is put together with the unknowing still present, we like to refer to this as "Customer Service". I have been running the SAS systems for several years and can honestly say without a doubt, the POI is repeatable with the systems. Hope this helps, feel free to contact us directly for further assistance and to all have a great holiday weekend.

Re: Newbie looking to buy first suppressor

Ok so after a ton more research I have now narrowed (ok expanded) it to my FINAL 3:

#1 TBAC 30BA

#2 SAS Arbiter TI

#3 ACC 762-SDN-6

I really like the wight of the TI models and I assume TI would also be more durable? I know the TBAC is a bit more than the other two but I hope to only purchase one 30cal suppressor.

I also know I want the suppressor to be quick attatch to a good working Muzzle brake, I have an acc blackout on my 308 and love it, but I do not have to stick with that brand.

Thanks again guys for the opinions!

Thanks for the heads up, that was my bad. I really don't care about QD, I just want to have a muzzle brake on the gun that I don't have to remove to put the can on.

Re: 30BA

Then the 30BA will fit your needs well. It's very accurate! I used one for the Steel Safari on my 260 this year and I did pretty good

Re: 30BA

Ray is being modest; he was the 2011 Steel Safari champion and only missed 5 shots over two days of shooting (120 targets total). This was a phenomenal performance.

Re: 30BA

I have the 30BA--still sitting at the dealer waiting on the form 4. Quality seems top notch, and from what I have read/been told, the POI shift is minimal with the can on/off and consisency of POI is great. Anxious to see what my results are.

One thing to keep in mind. The brake would never be considered svelt, particularly the shoulder the base of the can seats against when screwed on. In fact the "flange" for lack of a better word is sizable. Not an issue for me, but just somthing to keep in mind.

Still a great product, the team at TBAC appear to be great, and I would make the same choice again.

Re: First suppressor: TBAC, SAS or ACC???????

Suppressors are like lays potato chips... You know, you can't just have one..

That said, my TBAC can is the finest can I own. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another in a second.

ETA: I only have the model 30P, but it is amazing!

Re: 30BA

I too have a TBAC 30BA waiting for the form 4 to clear. I have fondled the can at my SOT and it looks very nice. I brought home the muzzle break to mount and like ZY100 said, it is BIG! Not a big deal to me, as I don't intend to shoot unsuppressed once I have it, but I sure like the size/look of the PWS FCS30. This is my first can, but I was just in your shoes and decided on the TBAC.

Good luck..........my debate was also with the SAS

He looked at me funny when I did the same thing! Wonder if Brent will get pissed if I show up again and again until the form 4 goes through.

Re: 30BA

I'd suggest the TBAC. Have heard plenty of them at the NRAWC matches and they're nice and quiet, and the guys do very well with them.

With TBAC, you get what you pay for. You aren't covering their marketing budget and military contract proposal costs when you, a regular guy, buy their cans.

I've got a Liberty Freedom single point attach on my 308. Got it for a steal or i'd probably have a 30P-1 on my rifle.

I'm trying to find the coin for a TBAC 338 Lapua can.

Last Saturday there was a fellow shooting at NRAWC who had never shot through a can. He asked what the recoil reduction was and he shot with and without a 30P-1 and by his estimation the recoil was reduced with the can by 50%. The 30BA would have a substantially similar recoil reduction.

Same boat for me. I went with the regular 30P1 though.

Good luck. Buy once, cry once. Remember you will be stuck with this one for the rest of your life. And you will prob buy more. ha.

Re: 30BA

Well I just dropped the funds off to my dealer to order me the TBAC. I hope it was a good choice, I'm not usually this nervous with a purchase but trying to sell a suppressor and wait for another sounds painful.

Thanks to all for your input!

A very "wise" choice! Believe me you won't be selling it in fact you will want one on every rifle you own

Re: 30BA

I picked up a 30P last spring. Great can, light and accurate. Ray took time from what he was doing to show me how everything stacks together inside the finished unit, while Shane and AJ Goddard fixed a thread problem on my barrel. The people at TBAC and Bighorn Arms are super to deal with.

Re: 30BA

Let me add a couple comments about our "non svelte" brake. Yeah, it's big at the rear. The reason is that we developed the "BA" brake interface initially for .338 Lapua, and our 338BA brake is a double-chamber job that will reduce recoil well on the big bore cartridge, and the rear flange doesn't seem out of the ordinary on that one. The design of the flange/shoulder is how it is for rock-solid lockup, repeatability, and POI reliability.

When we decided to port the BA mount down to the .30 caliber suppressor, we made the 30BA brake just a shorter version of the 338BA brake so that you could mount the 338BA suppressor on the short (.30) or long (.338) brakes, with the same great lockup and accuracy, to get the most flexibility out of the cans you have and the mount system. You can put the 338BA can on a 30BA or 338BA brake, but the 30BA can won't fit on the 338BA brake.

SSG3K,

Thanks for the comments about match sponsorship. This year we've sent out certificates to more than a half-dozen practical long-range and 3Gun matches. Supporting practical competition is important to us.

thanks
