My build
G/f's dad wanted to go shoot his new M4 and the reloads I made for him (55gr fmj w/ 24.9g XBR) so i figured I would just take the .308 for its barrel break in. *not going into the whole to break in or not thing, its a JP barrel and the JP manual said to break it in, so i did* I was shooting some circa 90's nato dag ammo in 147grs. I wasnt really going for groups or even really trying and i had 20 rounds of this left over so i took it. Since i dont have the scope i WANT for this rifle yet, I just grabbed a spare (nikon 3-9x40). Anywho, 1st few shots I was more adjusting the gas block then caring where the rounds went. whats bad though is I couldnt find the shots at 50 yards
I cleaned the barrel and took the target to 25 yards. first a shot, WAY low & left. worked it up in 2 shots. then took it back out to 100 yards and worked it in with the next 5-6 shots. cleaned the barrel and shot a 5 shot group. *wish i would have taken pics now* but it was about 1.5-2 moa. maybe alittle more imo, not bad for the ammo and me not really trying my hardest. I had 1 round not want to play nice and get jammed in the throat though and when i finally got it out, the neck of the case looked like it got dented in somehow.
Ran a patch through the barrel again and shot 5 more rounds and tried to dial in that scope just for fun. pretty much same type of group. ran a final patch through it and decided to actually TRY and shot 5 more rounds. Now i REALLY wish i would have taken a pic but her dad was done by now and it was getting to be 11am (and hot) so i just grabbed my target. but out of the 5 shots i was prob 2-2.5 moa BUT 2 shots were almost the same hole and 1 shot was touching those 2 holes. the other 2 were just left and those 2 were touching as well.
Needless to say I am excited to shoot the match ammo I have for it now as well as waiting for the nightforce scope to arrive (8-32x56 benchrest) plus take it out to 200 yards. Recoil i think is what surprised me and her dad the most. between the gas block and the break, the recoil was nothing. I was expecting the "hit" like my hk91 liked to give me. Now I have to see about getting a hunter mono rail from Hogan or POF... or if i could ever find 1, the hunter style rail from GA (its 13" vs 11 and would cover the gas block).
BTW, I also found out the mono-pod i have I am going to have to sell or trade. I need the next size up. this 1 is the smallest version (bt-12 QK) and i was JUST short of where i need it to be and need the BT-13 QK.
