So...I have not been out hunt'in song dogs in quite awhile. Amber's buddy has family who has a large ranch where the yotes have been harassing the livestock, etc.

We headed out yesterday afternoon to see what we could do. Just about had given up when this one came in. The wind was blowing pretty good and the yote circled down wind of us and scented us. He headed out at a high rate of speed but I was able to stop him with a bark.
Held above him and let a 50gr Vmax go. Flop! From the way he went down I new it was good hit. Ranged it at 303 yards. When we got to it I saw why he went down so hard...BOOM...HEAD SHOT!
Wish I could say I was aiming at his head...the wind "helped" me out on that one.

Anyways...just thought I would share.

Take care,Stan

Good job, all that matters is that he is out of the gene pool. The wind has played hell with my shooting more times than I care to remember.

If you hunt yotes for any length of time you will soon find out that all your fancy camo is a waste of time. They see MOVEMENT...not colors...and rely heavily on their nose...or at least that what I have observed. Sit still...placed your call down wind (they usually will try and circle down wind..read above about their nose)...and wait for the action.

In pretty much the same attire I have had them walk by me as close as 15' and never see me.

Take care,Stan

PS...a few dogs from last year...my normal yote hunting garb.

i know af a pack of coyotes that are as big as german shepards but they live in a state park where henting is restricted.

they have eaten a number of dogs in the area

i carpool with a friend around there and i spot them about 6 normally around 5am at least once a week

Predators are the best hunting around.

I got me a yote on my elk hunt this year. I thought it was gonna be a double they both lined up and my heart was thumpin but, alas I over estimated the distance and shot a bit high. Only ended up with one.

Anyway good shooting Stan!
