I have been studying for a few days now on new glass for my '06. I finally settled on a fixed 10X. I am thinking the Super Sniper, but wanted to ask first. Is there anything else comparable that I should look into? Sorry for the my first post being what it is, but the optics world has changed a lot in 15 years. It is kinda overwhelming.

Re: Fixed 10X ?

Yeah, I am thinking the $300 10X. I figured I would not be happy with my first scope, no matter what I bought. If I do decide later that I am serious about shooting LR, I will drop big money. Is that logic flawed?

Re: Fixed 10X ?

For the money, I don't know of a better scope than the SS 10x. You think you won't be happy with it, but you might be surprised.

They track well, have decent glass, a well proportioned reticle, and loads of elevation travel. The one I have has 130+ MOA. Unlike the Bushnell they have parallax adjustment, which makes it more versatile overall.

Re: Fixed 10X ?

The Bushnell 10x Mil/Mil is an excellent choice.

Clear, accurate and cost effective.

I own and use top end glass. The Bushnell 10x does not make be feel like I am using a cheap scope.

Re: Fixed 10X ?

I own Bushnell 10x mil/mil as well, worth every penny. It can be improved by a) adding parallax focus, and b) make the turret 5 mil per turn, not current 4 mil/turn.

I also have Weaver Tactical 3-10x mil/mil ($300 from MidwayUSA). It's Second Focal Plane though, but you can use it as a fixed 10x mil/mil with extra tricks. The turret on it is 5 mil/turn.

Re: Fixed 10X ?

All three scopes are good. They each have good and bad points. I have both the Weaver and Swfa. Sold my swfa 10xHD and keep the standard swfa 10x so I would have 2 308s with the same optic. The bushnell seams to be not as well built as the other two, but the glass was good on the one I had. Go with what you like. The resale will be better on the weaver and swfa when you upgrade.

Re: Fixed 10X ?

Glass is pretty good on my bushy 10x mil/mil

It was either that or the SS10x and I decided to go with the bushy just because of mil/mil. I know the SS10xHD is mil/mil, but its not in the price range of the SS10x and bushy.

Re: Fixed 10X ?

I had both the Bushnell and the SS10X. The Bushnell is what it is. A good $200 scope with good glass. The SS10X is what it is too. It's a good $300 scope. If I had to choose between the two, it would be the SS. I thought is was worth an extra $100 due to the turrets.

I have handled both. What was it about the SS turrets that makes you feel they are worth an extra $100?

I don't own a SS10x, but that is because every one I handled left me with a "blah" kind of impression. The Bushnell 10X had better feeling turrets and a cleaner image.
