Flir announced it has dissolved the ots division which handles the pts series, armasight etc. no more civilian sales and will continue with gov, mil and LE sales and support.

speculation on my part with this but I suspect they will cease support and repair not long from now once they exhaust their remaining stock. That’s just what I see coming.

yep. ive heard and read alot of straight up bullshit this week with this until they finally came out with it today. i surmise anythiing they decide for the future of support and repair will be handled in much the same manner and you wont know until its far too late.

I called this years ago. FLIR is not a consumer oriented company, their earnings calls and investor presentations have been obvious-- the commercial markets represent a tiny sliver of their revenue compared to public sector contracts.

We could easily see their chips (BOSON, etc) show up in other commercially marketed products, but FLIR itself is likely not going to be re-entering the consumer market any time soon.

If FLIR does what they have done in the past they will not be dropping the prices. There's a LOT of potential reasons for that, ranging from GAAP accounting principles to the way the FARs (Federal Acquisition Rules) work. The latter is more likely, not to mention will they give money back to the distributors?

I'm curious. How much do you feel loss of support decreases the value of a product like a Breach? I suppose one must consider no more software updates as well as discontinued repair.

Now how the rest of the world places a decreasing value on this will unfold in the near future I suspect.

Going forward they will only have SCOUT, SCION, PVS, LSX/R and BREACH products available for purchase for consumers. They will not be LE or Mil restricted as some other rumors have surfaced. All their warranty support stays the same. Hope this helps with the info traffic.

I was treated like a red headed step child.
C/S was not good.
But the Zeus is still knocking em down.
I have abused that thermal and exposed it to many nights of forgetting to shut it off as well of many high humidity nights and that thing wont quit.
They need to bring to market a new line of thermal clips based on the average blue collar price range.
Not everyone can shell out 10k on an optic.

I have one PTS 536, and ordered another one 3 weeks ago. At the time it said "backordered, expected to ship 1/11. Now it says "expected to ship 2/15". Haven't received a refund, I wonder how they will honor those orders placed prior to the announcement? Hell, you can still order one on their website...You would think they would have something that says their products in that division are unavailable?

Maybe so, maybe not. Hard to say at this point. However, I think someone will likely step into fill the void that Flir exiting is creating and if they get their product solid on all fronts they could reap the benefits. If I was a betting man, I tend to think AGM might be the new contender. They did it once so maybe they can resurrect the magic once again. At least that is the hope right now. However, I doubt Flir would let them get a hold of the Boson 320 or 640 cores, so them sourcing a bad ass 12 micron core at a modest price will be the hurdle I believe.

I have had 2 FLIR industrial cameras break on me with very gentle usage. I have been doing IR thermography since ‘97. I will not spend my personal $ on a FLIR product. Been that way long before any of this. I’ve risked $10k on a grey market BAE with no support before I sent a dime to FLIR.

Us Civi's pay taxes that Uncle Sugar spends to buy FLIR overpriced Govi systems which also pays for research and development. From those efforts (ultimately payed off the backs of Civi's) the Fat Cats at Flir pay themselves nice bonus's from profits ultimately derived out of Civi's pockets. But ooooh now, we can't have a TWS.

Their products are pretty good, but their policy's now for US Citizens maybe not so.

A public company is beholden to quarterly profits and highly compensated executives have lots of ways to make their goals even when actually failing the broader company. Add in being a slave the Federal acquisition rules and it's a whole other dimension.

There's a great book called Barbarians to Bureaucrats that beautifully summarizes how companies come up, grow, flourish, weaken and die. It's a short and utterly brilliant read.
