Just left the local shop a few minutes ago, and everybody in the place was oogling and wowing over a SCAR. There were about a dozen guys there, one of which was thinking about dropping the $3400 on it that the owner of the shop was asking.I couldn't take it I had to get the hell out of there. This just might be my opinion, but they are in no way worth that price tag, and I may be mistaken but don't they usually run about $2400?

From what I have seen, the 17s have been running around $2700 or more when you can find them in stock and ready to ship...the 16s go for around $300 or so less.
Again, while I think that the dealer's price is absurd, it all depends on what he paid for it and what the market will support (i.e. - what the uninformed masses will pay).

Scar 16 or 17? Seems high for the 16, but IIRC thats the MSRP for the Scar 17.
I picked my Scar 16 up almost NIB but it was used, and they seem to run around $2200 used.

Seen a 17 for sale locally used for $2400, from the same guy I bought my 16 from. I'd hav been supprised if it had more then one mag threw it. It sold pretty quick.

I think the SCAR is about a $2,500 value rifle. Very lightweight for a 7.62 platform, accurate, ergonomic. But at $3k plus that's precision semi-auto rifle territory. Just my humble opinion, but I think at around $3k the OBR represents better value.
I still regret selling my SCAR 16.

Dealer price for Scar 17 runs 2400-2600, I just checked last week, gun shops are raping people at 3000.

I paid 2500. There was just something satisfying about walking into a gunshop, seeing it, and saying 'you're mine'

I don't think SCAR 17 is worth that much at all. It's a decent weapon but it does not justify the price tag (3k+). Not going to go on a rant about the SCAR 17, but I am much happier with the LMT MWS than I am with the SCAR 17.
If the prices drop to about 2k, I would entertain getting one just because. But at 3k plus, you are getting a semi-accurate rifle with a not too great trigger and quite a bit of muzzle jump....
Anyway, most people I know that got the SCAR 17 got it for the "I use it on modern warfare" or "it just looks so cool." More power to them then.

<span style="font-weight: bold"> I purchased my SCAR 17 a while back for $2,500 from G&R Tactical. It is one one of the nicest weapons I own. I found the LMT MWS much too heavy for my liking. I wanted a light weight .308 as I already have too many heavy .308's in my safe! </span>

Have the 16s and 17s. Loved my 16s until i got the 17s, now I just cant justify having a .223 when I have the same rifle in .308. I personally dont think anything else comes close to the 17s in its class. light weight, compact, light recoil, accurate, tough, easy to clean, clean shooting, doesnt destroy brass... but thats just me.
Sure 2600 can be tough to stomach for some, but thats why there are other options like the LAR-8, m1a, dpms, PTR and armalite to name a few, but they just aint a SCAR.
As a store owner, Id ask 3200 also, if I could. How would a business ever survive if they sold everything at cost? Im sure they prob. have other fees and operating costs, that internet sales might can get around.

Agreed.... 700-800 bucks for a barrel is pretty heafty. But I think the SCAR, if they have the other barrels out, will be just as much.
For the LMT, I think eventually there will be more after market support. Might drop price on it when other makers start doing the conversion kits.

I choose the LMT MWS ove ther SCAR in a heart beat. IIRC the American Riflemen's last issue had an article describing the new British Designated marksmen rifle. The Miltary equivilent of the LMT MWS.

I too am very interested in the SCAR. I guess you could say that at this time I am in more of a market of a lightweight "battle rifle" that I am for a true "sniper system".
I just want to find a really quality gun that is lightweight enough for me to haul around for hunting (I count ounces in my loads), and also train to do "designated marksman rifle" kind of work. My thinking is that the 762 nato is a fairly heavy round and you can only carry .5 - .75 the number of rounds that you would for a weapon chambered for 556, so any place you can lighten the load is a good thing in my eyes. Then again, the only reason I drool over it so much is they haven't yet released the Magpul Massoud (and I haven't found any good data on when that will actually happen). If anyone has any comments on what I have said in this post it would be appreciated.

The first was supposed to be self correcting. Hopefully the second was.
This is a light battle rifle but is also very accurate. I just have to keep my thumb out of the way.

I LOVE my SCAR H! It likes long loaded rounds. The brake on it really reduces recoil.
I got it for $2600 on the button when they first came out.

They actually did. But they sold out to Bushmaster and changed the name to "ACR". From what I gather from people that own them, they are nice rifles, but are about $1,000 more than Magpul said they would be.

Magpul sold the rights to the Masada. This is what became the ACR, that's since been recalled.
The Massoud was to be their full-sized cartridge, battle rifle line.
