That’s not a bad way to go either, I’ve been really digging into shot barrel comparisons, both the 7-08 and the 6.5 creedmoor make interesting shorties, I’m settling in on an 18” barrel 7-08 because I can set it up for pretty good mid-long range performance and I have more options for heavier bullet weights for hunting. From what I have seen using 4DOF for simple comparison, a 150 grain 7 mm eld-x doesn’t lose much at all to a 147 grain 6.5 at similar velocities and the 7-08 gives you pretty good performance up into the 175 grain range with short barrels. Should provide me with a good practical sized, low recoil rifle, for the <500 yard shots I can take around here and will let me play around with longer distance on the few occasions I can. What I can’t decide on at the moment is what action I want to use, too many good options these days.
