After doing some searching here and on the net - I've read that some find the 20" light FNAR to be nearly equivalent in accuracy to the FN A5 SPR .308 w/24".

Reasearching made me more confused - if the accuracy claims are true. I've always valued the advice here so would like to hear your thoughts. There are no shops in my area that stock these.

Already have a nice Rem 700 and am AR-15 but have wanted a semi-auto .308 for a while. I really enjoy shooting bolt actions the most so after finding the FN A5 M SPR's I'm leaning that way more too. Cant afford both. Shooting for target and hunting use moslty.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move if neccessary. Thanks.

Re: FNAR vs FN A5 M SPR

I had a FN SPR A5 and shot 3/4 groups at 200 yrds.

My test target was .31 inch at 100.

That would be amazing for an FNAR to be able to shoot that well.

I owned and FNAR when they first came out.

It was a nice rifle that I really had no issues with. Farthest I ever took her out too was 300 and never with any measurements to speak of. She hit the 12x12 steel every time I pulled the trigger and that was good enough for me.

I sold her for one reason only, the magazines. They were $80 at the time and hard to find. I also had an issue in '09 with FNH's customer service. This was regarding a different weapon but it left a taste in my mouth for them I did not like.

If you are one to think about zombies and mayans then parts could be an issue as well for this weapon. With that said I had roughly 400 rounds down range with mine and never experienced one problem.

Also owned the FN Service rifle, great little rifle out of the box. It did not doing anything wrong to me either. However it didnt do anything that my other rifles didnt already do so it had to go away.

So I would say both are nice weapons, you just have to decide if you want semi auto or bolt action. The inside 300 accuracy was negligible for me, although I would have to think the bolt would do better at distances beyond that. I never took either farther then 300 so I cant help you there.

Good luck,

Andrew

I had both which a freind now owns the bolt gun which I would buy back as far as the FNAR its a nice rifle but I think it will not compare to accuracy on the spr.
