I,ve been reading about this rifle. Can't really find anything negative about it. Does anyone here have some first hand knowledge they would like to share?

Re: FNH A3G.........thoughts

They are very solid rifles that shoot great. FNs warranty is great, if you never modify the rifle.

If you like the A3 stock, and are down with a hinged floor plate, and simply want a turnkey no-nonsense factory 308 rifle, the A3G is a fine choice.

Don't buy one if you have intentions of tuning it up or modifying.

Re: FNH A3G.........thoughts

I have a FNH PBR with a McM A3 Stock. I bought the barreled action from CDNN a few years back and absolutely love it. Shot it 2 days ago.

It shoots one ragged hole at 100yds with 178gr Amax's at 2600(44.5gr Varget). It even shoots 110gr Vmax bullets good. Took it out and slayed prairie dogs with it a couple months ago.

I had a CDI bottom metal put in mine. Don't really care for internal mags.

Re: FNH A3G.........thoughts

At one time, they were having a problem with the chrome flaking off in the bore, ruining accuracy.

I don't know if they fixed that or not.
I would like to find out though, as they offer a very attractive package.

Re: FNH A3G.........thoughts

I had to change the trigger to an aftermarket one and now I'm very happy. My previous stock spr in an a5 shot a little better than a3g does but the a3g is still a solid rifle.

occaisionally you'll see one for sale here. Hunt for a bargain because new, they approach the cost of some used custom rifles you can find here on the board.

Re: FNH A3G.........thoughts

I've had two of these rifles. The first one I had to send back because it would not shoot, even though the test target showed a .34" group. About 3 months later I got the replacement. It shot better, but for the money, you can dress up a Remingtion, Winchester or Savage with what you want for less.

Re: FNH A3G.........thoughts

I've bought three FN's in ther last year. (2) FN SLP 18" Shotguns and a A3G Rifle.

The front sight on one of the shotguns was canted to the left. Soldered on wrong. It was obviously off so that tells me they don't even look down the barrel of the guns they are selling.
Call FN to get another barrel. I'm willing to buy a new barrel instead of being with the gun for a month or more. They don't sell that barrel stand-alone. You can get other barrels for the SLP but they don't sell the 18" SLP barrel.

Now I find out my A3G is messed up. See link to thread in previous post.

So 2 out of 3 FN's I've bought in the last year are bad.

On the other hand I also bought a Kahr PM9 last fall that jammed every other mag (Premature slide lock).

I traded it for a Ruger LCR revolver. My wife also bought a Ruger LCR at the same time. Her's ocassionally advances the cylinder 2 or 3 cylinders when you pull the trigger.

6 guns purchased in my household in the last year. 4 of them bad.

Either I'm the unluckiest person alive or the quality of mass produced guns has just gone to crap.

Guy next to me at work just bought a new Kimber .45 and no surprize, FTF from hell. Trying to get it unjammed the mag falls out and lands on floor and splits in 1/2 down weld seam.
