Hey guys- just bought a new FNP-45 competition model to replace my old Ruger P-90. The FN looks great, but I'm having some function issues, and I wonder how common my issues are.

I'm shooting handloads, dropped back just a tad from the (very warm) loads that fed perfectly in my Ruger, and feeding is as sloppy as a school of barracudas at a nude beach. It looks like there may be a problem with cases snagging on the magazines- all three magazines, but I can't safely confirm that. Bullets are Hornady XTP 185 gr.

I hear "just keep messing with it- it'll loosen up."
I hear "loads are too hot, slide is slapping back too fast."
I hear "loads are too wimpy, not enough recoil to cycle slide."
I hear "slap some teflon on it."
I hear "just seat bullets deeper and bump up chamber pressure."

Has anyone had this problem and remedied it, with any of these ideas or any others, for that matter?

Re: FNP-45 question

yeah, y'know, that's kinda what I was thinking too. Factory loads... meh... haven't shot a round of factory ammo since 1990. I think I will warm it up a tad and try again.

Re: FNP-45 question

I have one and have shot reloads and factory. Never an issue. In fact I've never heard anyone having issues with this gun. I would buy 2 boxes of different factory, to make sure it cycles both. If it doesn't, give FN A RING. They are awesome and so are those FN 45's.

I think my reloads are running about 800 flat. Good luck.

Re: FNP-45 question

Thanks for the input, guys- I applied a bit of dri-lube to the slide and spring, and am heading out tomorrow with some stouter handloads. PappaSniper- it's good to know that FN is good about backing their product: I just purchased an FN FiveSeveN for the "Hawk," to replace her unruly Taurus .44 Special snubbie. It'll be an interesting undertaking, helping her transition to an auto pistol, but I feel a lot better about her having 20 rounds at the ready than I did with only five. We're signed up for "family" training next weekend.

Re: FNP-45 question

Stay away from Winchester white box ammo. The seating length varies and is a tad long for the FNP magazine.

I had an issues with my FNP tactical and recently got it back from FN. I am ready for a range trip to test it again.

Re: FNP-45 question

I never use anything but 200 grain and higher rounds, and I only use factory loads, so reloading can't help you. But I have been forced to use some really crappy target ammo, and something tells me, your not the type of person to reload worst then crappy factory target loads :) I am curios to find out what the problem turns out to be.

I have to admit tho, call FNH and ask to speak to a pistol tech, they are always happy to help me out, and when in doubt they will tell you to send to them and they will take care of it. There customer service is one of the best.

Good Luck
