Ran across a decent deal on a slightly used FNX today. I've had my eye on one of these for a long time. What do you guys that have some trigger time with these think about them?

I HATE the placement of the decocker....I am a huge sig P series guy and love da/sa pistols. On sigs the decocker is forward of the slide catch....on the fnx it's behind and digs into your strong hand with every shot.

I tried to adapt my grip but couldn't ever find a grip that either A didn't cause pain to my strong hand thumb, or B was way to uncomfortable to maintain mag after mag.

With gloves on I didn't notice it as much and as a duty pistol its not bad but bare handed I hated it.

Supressed fantastic hard to find another hi cap 45 that feeds suppressed reliably and the fnx slays in that regard.

Trigger...meh it's not the greatest /smoothest but it's not the worst.

Mine was stupid accurate with everything I fed it.

So my fnx tac got benched after/around 5k rounds and the reasons are pretty simple.

It jumps around, even though the grip looks "grippy", it wants to float....a lot, and I found myself constantly adjusting my grip.

The slide rusted like a b**** under the RMR mounting plate and when the RMR was off, between the cover plate and slide.

The decocker was too easy to activate when dropping the safety - hammer back.

The mags have a lot of slop when loaded and causes excess spring noise. I went through FN for 5 different mags and finally gave up.

Obviously this is a test sample of one, and my experience but I can say nearly every person I know has experienced the slide rust.

Do I still like it? Yes, but do I shoot it anymore? Nope

I had a few, sloppy mags, crap trigger, awkward decocker, and and aggressive grip that didn't actually work all led to me selling them off. They are fun to look at, hold a lot of 45 and are a very good suppressor host but the juice just wasn't worth the squeeze for me personally. I never experienced the rust issue mentioned earlier.

I like mine a lot. Seems to shoot a little low with the iron sights but ok with an RMR. Also have an STI 2011 in 45 to compare. They are the same size but the FN feels more like a glock while the STI is more refined and heavy, but with the deference in price it makes sense. All that said I haven’t had a failure and 15 rounds of .45 is a serious OWB handguns carry in the woods.

I just sold mine, with optic for $850. When I bought it 8 years ago, threaded double stack pistols milled for an optic where uncommon, consequently I put up with it's weaknesses- the trigger, the decocker , flappy recoil and the grip. It was accurate, but not particularly enjoyable to shoot.
Given the availability of threaded barrels and optic cut slides on arguably better, and more supported platforms from other manufacturers, I don't see the appeal anymore.

Love mine shooting suppressed, has worked flawlessly for about 3k rounds with an rmr on it. Mostly suppressed. If you like the larger frame of it its a great gun

Got mine first release.
Will not be letting it go.

Too much fun with the tyrant and a nice open carry piece when in that mood.

It's a solid combat style pistol. It's not perfect and not as refined as a competition pistol, but it's accurate and reliable. I like how you really don't need to buy anything else for it - comes with 3 mags, tritium sights, optic ready, carry bag, threaded barrel, etc It's ready to roll without any mods. My local shop often has them on sale for ~$800 and you can't go wrong at that price.

Edited to add: it's a freakin big pistol, so you're probably not going to want to conceal carry it, but for a range gun, or with a good holster on a battle belt or something, you'll be good to go. I use mine as a hunting sidearm on a good load bearing belt. A 10mm or whatever would be better, but I'm going with the argument that 15+1 of 45 ACP is good 'nuff for 99.9% of situations I might find myself in.
