I have a Rem 5r that shoots great, but almost never gets shot because it is just a little boring. I was thinking of making it into a compact rifle that is easy to pack and throw in the truck to replace my 300bo. The plan is to chop the barrel to 16.5" and get a chassis or manners compact stock.

So what right folding chasssis? Or would you go with the manners CS with a mini chassis fit?

One of my favorite rifles is a 16.5" R700 in a standard (fixed LOP and no cheek riser) McMillan A5 stock. It's solid and plenty handy as-is.

Never liked folders on a bolt gun because any length savings gets ruined by making the width 2x (or more depending on the hinge) thicker which sometimes is even more difficult to stow than a long-barreled rifle.

Check out this thread for some ideas... 16-18 inch shorty rifles.
