Re: ? for M40a1/Mst100 owners
I have a GAP M40A1/MST100 combo with the adjustable HTG. The mount is the USO repro.
My scope is mounted so that the forward ring is approx 1/4" back from the start of the Objective bell.
When I obtain the correct eye relief the rear of the bolt is touching my cheek when drawn fully back but it does not interfere with cycling the bolt.
My other "precision rifle" is an AI AW with S&B PMII - same with that set-up.
I've got the same LOP on both rifles (13.5")
In the AW Users Manual section entitled "Setting up the Rifle" it says:
1) Adopt the prone firing position
2) Adjust the Bipod legs to suit terrain
3) Fully open the bolt
4) Place the cheek on the stock just touching the bolt shroud
5) Check and if necessary adjust the position of the telescopic sight to obtain the correct eye relief
Later it says in the section on Eye Relief:
"Because the head position on the cheekpiece is determined by the open bolt, head position is always the same, so the eye relief is always the same"
When i got my M40A1/MST100 I never questioned the bolt touching my face - I kind of assumed this was how it was meant to be...like the AW?
